Try to use the manual over ride for the spoiler and if it does not lift check to make sure the wiring harness on the pass side of the engine lid is plugged in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys So I just got the car on the road and discovered a couple of electrical niggles where I need your wisdom!! The engine bay fan doesn't seem to work or I have never seen it work, what temp does it come in at Also my spoiler doesn't seem to lift , it will move up and down with switch in footwell and all fuses are good Any ideas ??

POST 2Original post

The engine purge fan should come on at engine coolant temperature of >215.6 degree F or compartment "engine bay" ambient temp of > 140 degrees F.

POST 3Original post

Have heard my engine compartment fan run all of three times in the last ten years, even on 90+ days. You can always put a 12V source on it to see if it actually works. Does the engine compartment light come on? The one on the lid, underneath. That will tell you if the wiring harness to the engine compartment fan and spoiler has 12V and is connected properly. Check that wiring harness, but it does raise/lower from the footwell switch, so probably good. Spoiler goes up at 70+ MPH (more like 72-74). Does it not do that? Not exactly sure where the DME/ECU gets the speed from to raise the spoiler but probably from the front wheel speed sensors. Part No. 3 - http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=401-05

This is yet another time when having a Durametric is valuable. Trying to isolate what might be causing that weird noise is much easier when you can turn various systems and accessories on and off individually.

Don't know which year 996 the OP has, but a FYI Durametric doesn't help at all if you have a '99 C2...

POST 6Original post

Try to use the manual over ride for the spoiler and if it does not lift check to make sure the wiring harness on the pass side of the engine lid is plugged in.

You can't see the spoiler when you're driving (at least I can't see mine). If you're doubtful that it's actually working at speed, have someone follow you on the highway and tell you if it raises at 72mph...

I can now disappointedly verify this. My new '99 has an airbag light that I was unable to clear. The only two modules it can communicate with are the DME and I think like the air conditioning or something. Very annoying.
