This is not a probability of success.

He specializes in Porsche convertible tops and should be able to get you back up and running for far less than the dealerships.

I test drove it this morning and the top went down when I was checking it out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I've had a few Porsches and just bought a 996 Cab today the wrong way, on a whim , no ppi.
I test drove it this morning and the top went down when I was checking it out. When I picked it up the top wouldn't go down.
The back piece raises and it unlocks from the windshield but it doesn't go down.

Could be as simple as needing to top off your hydraulic fluid. Lots of DIY's in here if you search. If you bought from a dealer, see if they will honor that repair.
Remember...PPI also stands for Post Purchase Inspection (or the name of 5CHN3LL's dog). It never hurts to have one done now so you can address any minor issues before they become major. Worth the ~$300 for some piece of mind.
Likely worst case is a new motor for the top. IIRC, I was quoted around $1200.00 from the Porsche Dealer before I took it to my Indy who topped off the hydraulic fluid and charged me $50.00. Worked perfectly fine after that.
Michael,
If you can't get it solved on your own and want to avoid the high costs associated with Porsche service centers, then you may want to give Kenny McCombs a call at his shop in Snellville. He specializes in Porsche convertible tops and should be able to get you back up and running for far less than the dealerships.

Hope that helps!
Thanks for the heads up on the shop.
I drove the new to me toy from Houston to Atlanta nonstop except to fill one tank and drain another ,without any hickups. Nothing like a Long drive to get to know your car.
On the other hand you never know when those will fail. Your PPI could have been with flying colors and then the top could fail the next summer or the next month.
The top going down is not a huge priority as we move into January (even though the last week was perfect top down weather in Atlanta). as warmer weather nears it will move up my priority list to look around back there and see whats leaking.
