I still need to change the oil and, clean interior, detail exterior and maybe put a clear bra on the bumper if I can get to all that.

These benefits are lost if the spoiler is more than a half-millimeter off in either direction, so you may want to use a caliper to measure, for exactness.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I washed and covered my car for the winter. Should I store it with the spoiler up or down, or maybe it doesn't matter. I still need to change the oil and, clean interior, detail exterior and maybe put a clear bra on the bumper if I can get to all that.

POST 2Original post

Can't see where there's a difference but the weight of the cover might be better supported with the spoiler down. Undue stress on the wing supports?

POST 3Original post

It is powered by eletrickery so really should not matter. I would leave it down personally as cover is less likely to get snagged.

POST 6Original post

John, perhaps the type of cover will dictate your answer a fitted, Porsche cover will probably not allow the wing to be up if it's a loose generic cover, maybe yes leave the wing down

POST 7Original post

John - It really depends on a couple of factors. How many miles are on the car? Is the car cover an indoor cover or a waterproof (outdoor) cover? Is it a generic car cover or a fitted one (i.e. - an OEM Porsche cover)? Do you normally have the spoiler up on the car or typically do you just drive it around in the automatic (normal) mode? Are the motor mounts the original ones or have you replaced them or have they been replaced by a previous owner?

POST 9Original post

This has to be voted the most informative thread ever posted on Rennlist. Do they award a trophy for this kind of thing?

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 13844694

No. No they do not... On the other hand, if the OP would have asked, "Where is the best place to keep my iPhone?", that would have been worthy...

POST 11Original post

Half way down/up. That way you're letting it rest in the most unused space in the mechanism, as well as support it with foam inserts.

POST 12Original post

KC, I cannot believe you forgot the most important factor. Is it Guards Red or just one of those "other" colors.

POST 13Original post

I've owned & stored mine for 10 years and never thought about this.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 13844005

Is eletrickery an kind of magic?

POST 15Original post

If you bought an aerokit car this wouldn't be an issue. As a bonus, it would look phenomenally better too

You must have been browsing the 991 board....

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 13844978

You, sir, are correct. And may I also say that is one damn fine looking car you have there.

POST 18Original post

I vote to leave it up. Will make it much more accessible to rodents building their winter nests, thus more environmentally friendly.

POST 19Original post

If the spoiler goes up at 75mph and down at 37mph, I cant help but think it's a little risky to store the car at speeds like that.

POST 20Original post

neither, remove it and put it in the freezer just to be safe

POST 21Original post

However, if you leave it up it will create additional downforce and your rear tires will flatspot quicker. Ohh there are just so many decisions to make. First world problems..........

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 13845740

And this keeps it from "spoiling" over the winter...

POST 23Original post

Keep it down, but make sure the cup holder is fully deployed for winter storage. You do not want that thing seized up in spring!

POST 26Original post

Candid Camera? What was TV like back then Paw Paw?

POST 27Original post

Can I leave the cd in the player when in storage?

POST 28Original post

That's crazy talk. I'd delete that in case you ever need to sell.

POST 29Original post

To get the benefits of storing the car with the spoiler in both the up and down positions, the obvious solution is to put the spoiler only half way up. Start by measuring the position of the spoiler in the lowered and raised positions, and then determine where the exact middle of it is. These benefits are lost if the spoiler is more than a half-millimeter off in either direction, so you may want to use a caliper to measure, for exactness.

POST 30Original post

This whole thread has me seriously concerned since I'm a MK2 owner... should I store my car with the hood(s) opened or shut?

POST 31Original post

Glad I don't have to worry about storing a car for the winter... But I do live in Hawaii, do I need sun block while driving with the sun roof open? Should I just not worry about it and keep the revs up so the ultra violet rays all end up in the back seat?

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 13848156

hahahahaha!!!! You win for the best response!

POST 33Original post

With the spoiler up, you're displacing more air into the atmosphere and potentially creating hazardous conditions for aircraft and satellites. I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

POST 34Original post

Hmmm...just wondering what the OP decided to do...

POST 35Original post

I think use 996 nuts scared him off... Or maybe gave his brotha Mick Dundee a call for action? Who knows.

Have you seen the Wheeler Dealers 993 episode? Edd had to repair a spoiler linkage. Store it down or you may too.

hard to fathom, as the 993's were simply superior to our plebeian cars
