Unbelievable, spent more time on this screw than I did changing coil packs and plugs!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Read the manuals and DIY for window regulator replacement for some reason the map pocket screw just turns and I am unable to remove it! Any suggestions? Unbelievable, spent more time on this screw than I did changing coil packs and plugs! Thanks for any tips! At least my new to me wheels gave the car a more aggressive stance!

POST 4Original post

What year is your car. Mine is an 04, there was no screw in the map pocket as the manuals suggested, instead just a rubber plug. When taking the first door off I was hunting around with a screw driver trying to find the screw after I removed the rubber plug and put a small hole in the plastic liner behind the panel.

POST 5Original post

That stupid screw! Best advice, get everything else done to remove the door panel and start pulling it away from the door while turning the screw. It needs a bit of pressure from behind to remove. Helps to have another person while doing this.

POST 6Original post

I had a similar issue with my MY 2000. I decided to drill it out and discovered it's made of plastic. I think you can just yank it out, but check that yours is plastic first.

This advice should work... or, drill it out as others have mentioned.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the replies. The map pocket "screw" with the plastic nutsert came free with a little prying and the new regulator is in. The nutsert was spinning inside the door. So, one hour to figure that out and 30 minutes to put the new regulator in....
