POST 2Original post

In. I just haven't decided for what. Long or Short?

POST 3Original post

Just chiming in here - thanks for setting this up! Please note that the extended height shafts (both colors) are on back order. They will be in stock in 4-6 weeks. So if you are intent on that configuration, please keep that in mind. Also note that there are a very limited number of white Delrin ***** available, as those are being phased out. Thanks, Rennlist!

POST 4Original post

I'm in. Aluminum 996 w/ shift pattern in black 6 speed

POST 5Original post

I’m in! I really like the black with white shift pattern. Delrin would be perfect for the Houston heat. I’ll send you my e-mail address.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you ALL! Pls PM/DM me with your email so we can send you invoices per the original instructions, thank you!

POST 7Original post

PM sent, I'm in too By the way, is there any way you could periodically update the original post with how many people have signed up for the group buy? That might help encourage more people to sign up if they know they'll get 20% off.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Funny, I just did that on my other post. Yes, we are at 7 now, so 3 away from getting the 20% off. Once we reach that, invoices are going out! Thank you.

POST 9Original post

By the way, THANK YOU SO MUCH for organizing this group buy. I've been weighing options on shift ***** for a little while now, and I had narrowed it down between the FF and this classy shift **** classy shift **** . Much to my surprise, my wife preferred the function first ****, and your group buy should make for a nice price.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

haha, no prob... my first time doing this so bear with me! funny i saw that too on amazon!!!! i just ordered a red stich shift boot and floor mats with red script..... excited to put it all together!

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 14943000

Just curious, which shift boot did you decide to go with? I've already ordered a spare bracket, would rather have the option to go back to stock versus cutting off the original boot.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

spare bracket? I hope I don't have to cut anything as I would like the option to go back to stock and move the FF set up to my next car (996tt). PS, we are at 9 now! This is what I ordered:

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 14943703

The bracket part is available for order, and from my reading you'll need to either cut up the original boot get the old plastic bracket out, or you'll need to order a new one to affix the new boot to (looks like stapling or gluing are what most people do). The boot you linked mentioned in the description that it is just the leather part, and not the plastic piece that it wraps around. The part number for the bracket is 996-552-655-01. Sunset stocks it . I ended up ordering the RedLine boot in medium gray, hopefully that is a good match for graphite gray.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, good looking out..... this is turning into a project, haha

POST 15Original post

The plastic bracket comes out without mangling the leather. You just peel back the part where it is attached with adhesive. They arent very expensive though, even if you do need a spare. Did you notice the one you ordered was vinyl? You can get leather ones for about the same price...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cds72911! You saved me! I didn't even see the fake leather part! (that what you get for drinking Petchuga and ordering off Amazon at midnight!). Canceled and order a (hopefully) leather one.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

slakker, you would make 10, pls dm me your email and i will forward to FF at which point they will send out invoices. thank you.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

bump, still need one more.....

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you! waiting for one more and invoices will go out!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All right! Thank you everyone that PM'ed me their email, I just emailed the list to Luka at FF and hoping invoices go out soon (at which point we should be able to make our choice of color, etc). I will keep everyone posted of any new details. Hope we all can post install pictures here as well! Meanwhile, this group buy continues till 4/17/18 and I will keep forwarding emails to Luka as I receive them, thank you all again!

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just sent two more emails to Luka, still awaiting further instructions, just an update.

POST 28Original post

I received my invoice, and have paid. Now I just need a shift boot. I don’t want to cut my original Metropol blue boot. Does anyone have a link to an affordable shift boot? Black is fine, Metropol would be cool though. ——Nevermind, I saw that someone mentioned RedLine. Their dark blue looks like it might match Metropol Blue...at least close enough. Looks like they have a decent product. I’ll be installing my 997 shifter at the same time. It’s been setting on a shelf for a few weeks now.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quick update (went surfing for a cpl of days), by now the original ten should have gotten invoices and I just forwarded 6 more emails as of 1:02am 4/24/18. As far as shift boots and the plastic trim, hoping to see some pics and hear input. I got a boot off Amazon but am sceptical it will fit and it looks like I will have to cut off the original....attached to shift ****.

POST 30Original post

I have a boot off eBay for my Rennline shifter. The leather is thicker than Id like, but it works. The place sells all different colors and deviated stitching. Mine is black with black stitching. It fit well without adhesive, slots in the leather fit the tabs on the frame, but I epoxied it to the base anyway.

POST 31Original post

I have yet to receive my invoice, I've checked my spam folder etc. Who should I contact for a followup? EDIT - emailed Luka, got it sorted out.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool, glad you got it done, just pm'ed ya and forwared your email to Luka too. thanks!

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for all who contacted me regarding a. not having a spot to fill in preferences on invoice and b. lack of reply to emails from Luka. I just received an email from him regarding these as i have had the same exp as you guys. Just wanted to assure you and update you that all is well and as suspected patience is key as this is a big order for him but he assured me confirmation emails will go out to each of you by end of day today and orders will ship with in a week. Thank you everyone who participated! Group buy is also officially closed for/as of now, thank you.

POST 34Original post

Luka is a great guy to work with and makes some really interesting and useful stuff. He went above and beyond for me recently and I couldnt be more appreciative. Hang in there - youll be happy that you did.

POST 35Original post

Thanks, Rennlist! Orders are being processed and will be shipping this week.

POST 36Original post

I just received my new Redline shift boot from Poland, and it looks like the shift **** should be here by Monday at the latest. Getting excited!

POST 37Original post

I received my new shift ****, motor mounts (just installed them this evening!!!!), and the shift-kit from FF. I went ahead and ordered it all at once.. Luka was great! I am waiting on my new shift boot from Poland now before I change the shifter items out.. as I want to only break apart the console once to get the shift kit, boot, and **** all installed together. I will post some photos when I get it all done! I hope others share some photos too!

POST 38Original post

Yay, my shift **** arrived. Too bad it wasn't the one that I wanted! I wanted black with white engraving. But I asked for black for both. My screw up. I guess I'll have to figure out how to fill it in with white paint.

POST 39Original post

Mine came today got it installed. looks great. just need to get a second boot instead of cutting up the original. Silver with white marking

POST 40Original post

Installed mine today along with the Right Shift kit from Function F1rst. I like both after a post-install spin... as for the shift kit install, please do your self a favor and purchase a the External Retaining Ring Pliers (90 tips) before you attempt the install! Here is a before and after for the shifter! New F1 shifter!

POST 41Original post

Quotes source post: 14996903

Looking good! By the way, is that a redline shift boot? If so, did you trim yours? I'm considering taking an inch or two off the "neck" of mine.

POST 42Original post

Yes, that is a redline shift boot. I like it a lot. I trimmed the neck down but now it is a bit tight. Be careful to not trim too much! I have to say I am very impressed with the quality of the boot, the fit is amazing.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source post: 14997375

Yeah, the boot is top notch. I might just leave it as-is, it's not that it looks bad, but I think it might look a little more "factory" if there wasn't so much excess. I'll take a pic soon and post once I get the new shift ****. I accidentally screwed up the finish on my original **** while adjusting it and Luka is shipping me a new one (amazing customer service by the way). On that note, do be careful with that wavy washer. Somehow mine got wedged sideways / jammed up with the threads and I had to use some channel locks to get it off. I used a towel around it in an attempt to protect the finish, but that didn't work so well. I ended up replacing that washer with a small split washer, which is a lot thicker and shouldn't have any possibility of getting wedged in there like that.

POST 44Original post

After my post regarding surface finish, Luka was kind enough to reach out to me and send a replacement. The new **** has a much better finish. Here you can see the difference. I'm always willing to support vendors who take care of their customers!

POST 45Original post

Quotes source post: 14996903

My leather aftermarket boot fits about the same. I do not care for the way it sits below the ****. Ive wondered if trimming it down, and thinning the leather (I think they call it skiving or something like that). Regrettably, the last time I tried to mess with it with a razor blade I sliced myself pretty well. I decide to leave well enough alone!

POST 46Original post

Quotes source post: 14997932

Here is a pic of mine before I gouged up the surface: You can see where it's pretty bunched up around the middle there. But the **** looks pretty great (if crooked)!

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Those looks awesome!!!!!! Thanks to all who participated!

POST 50Original post

Does anyone know if the base plate that clips into the console is available anywhere? Seems that one of the tabs on mine is snapped off at the back and the boot 'lifts' off the console when you select 3rd or 6th gear. 2 Notes on the F1 shift ****: 1) replace the O-rings with a thin wire tie; the O-rings slip-off when you roll the boot down after securing it to the shaft. 2) the shaft is too thick and if you use the cut-down stock boot, it will tear as you try to pull it down into position. Ask me how I know...... Otherwise, a very nice piece.

POST 51Original post

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...l#post14943748 Several online porsche parts places have them in stock.

POST 52Original post

Finally got the new shift **** in and the boot trimmed:

POST 53Original post

You can get the base plate at any dealer. Suncoast and Sunset seem to be great. Aaron at Rennpart can get most anything for good prices. I just replaced my boot with a factory one ($40 on eBay) after cutting off the ****. Rather than O-ring, zip tie, etc, I used a bit of safety wire. It worked great.

POST 54Original post

PN# 996-552-655-01 - Retaining frame for shift cover on center console for Porsche 986 and 996

POST 55Original post

Thanks so much for the help on the frame! Here's the shifter installed with an aftermarket boot. I also refinished the console/ashtray after removing the soft-touch paint. And the addition of the gauge trim rings. Likely will go to the black Delrin ****. And here's a shot of my car in the driveway ....

POST 56Original post

Quotes source post: 15007282

Damn your rims look so clean! Beautiful car. Is that Seal gray?

POST 57Original post

Yes, Seal Grey with black all leather interior. Wheels are perfect. Not a scratch on them. Same for the body which I'd rate at a solid 9. Car has 50,000 miles on it, with 13,000 miles on a rebuild by Porsche after an IMS failure. I could not be happier with this car! Ordered the shift boot frame from Suncoast.

POST 58Original post

Quotes source post: 15006771

Ooh...nice McIntosh! Is that the stock boot, or one from the aforementioned supplier?

POST 59Original post

Ordered a redline boot myself with red cross stitch over black. Id also like to find a 997 shifter and do it all at once. Keep up with the pics guys; its inspiring.

POST 60Original post

Quotes source post: 15022843

Thanks! Love the McIntosh. As for the boot, it's from Redline Goods. I'm *very* impressed with the quality of their boot, it's not a one-size-fits-all but specific to your car, and higher quality than OEM.

POST 61Original post

Well, Function-First fixed my screw up. They replaced my all-black delrin **** with a black delrin & white shift pattern one. I swapped out the 996 shifter console for a 997 console I nabbed off eBay. I really love how it shifts now! Ive had it setting in my garage for months now. I should have installed it the first night! Now I’m waiting on the shift boot trim and I’ll permanently install the RedLine boot & Function-First ****. I installed it without a boot to see how I liked it, and I really like the feel! Its going to look awesome!

POST 62Original post

I ordered a shift boot from ICT in Germany ( https://www.innovativcar-tech.de/en/ ). The boot is much longer than the Redline piece and works perfectly with the F1 shaft, and the boot is already fastened to a base plate which has the silver trim around the base that finishes it perfectly!
