Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This shop is probably THE place to go for a PPI in the area, but they possibly wouldn't be "neutral" with the car since they've serviced it for so long and know the owner so well.
Leading evidence: 'place' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'place' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any other top shop as a preference' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If not, then this shop should be honest and independent, but again, I would check for any other top shop as a preference.

Suggestion
I was coming from out of state and relied on the forums for recommended shops.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Asking for a buddy:
He's looking at a car to purchase in WI and it has been supremely cared for by the owner and a well-known Indy shop (Kelly Moss Motorsports). This shop is probably THE place to go for a PPI in the area, but they possibly wouldn't be "neutral" with the car since they've serviced it for so long and know the owner so well. So does my friend attempt to find another place to do the PPI in order to get a neutral opinion on the car? Or go ahead and take the car to the highly regarded Indy because they know the car inside-out and have such a great reputation in that area?
Thanks all.
There isnt any other top shop in the area? If not, then this shop should be honest and independent, but again, I would check for any other top shop as a preference. Besides, cant you get both opinions? I mean if you call the shop that serviced the car, they might tell you all they know for free. Then cross/add what the 2nd shop tells you. Chances are not everything will line up 100% by the way (nobody will ever catch everything).
If it were me, I'd call the shop and ask them if they know what the car might need in the next few thousand miles, and if it sounds good, I'd go ahead and buy it.
Normally I don't want a car unless I look it over myself.
Including checking it with my Durametric/Bavarian Technics/Snap-on scanner.
But if the shop has a great reputation and has regularly serviced a car, I'd just go by what they say.
No quality shop is going to withhold information.
Also technicians normally do an inspection so they can up-sell any needed work.
They should have these recommendations recorded.
If he really wants a PPI, then pay the shop that knows the car...and have them drop the pan.
FWIW when I bought my 928 years almost 10 years ago I had the shop that maintained the car do the PPI. It was a very reputable and well known Porsche independent shop in Raleigh NC. I was coming from out of state and relied on the forums for recommended shops. I was also buying from a good owner that had all his service documentation and it was a well cared for car.
Part of me saw the potential conflict of interest but I also realized that first, if the shop correctly identifies things wrong with the car its likely you may have them fix any or all of them prior to purchase to get the car road worthy for the ride home. Secondly, we live in a digital age. If you bought the car and they missed things they shouldn't they can expect it would be plastered all over the internet and their reputation would take a hit. So those things gave me some confidence that it was in their interest to just be honest with the assessment and let the chips fall out however they will. Good luck with your friend's search.
