Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My 2003 had a jerky 3-4 shift, M or D mode, just did the (Key on, engine off, depress accelerator for 10 seconds, switch key off, and restart after five minutes) reset, now it shifts smooth like silk!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car is a 2004 C2 with 111K miles. I have had the car since 2009 and put most of the miles on it. The ATF was changed about 20,000 miles ago. No prior issues. Several days ago it reached third gear and would not shift out of that gear, automatically or in manual mode, at any speed. Once I reached my destination, I found that it would go in Park and Reverse, but when put in Drive it would momentarily go to second gear but immediately shift back up to third while sitting. No warning lights, CELs, or codes found with Torque app & simple Ancel OBD2 adapter. Some fundamental research led me to a TCU reset procedure for that vintage of tips, though nothing Porsche specific. (Key on, engine off, depress accelerator for 10 seconds, switch key off, and restart after five minutes). That brought everything not only back to life, but immediately it seemed to shift smoother than ever before. After ~100 miles, still perfect. I am left to wonder if that actually remedied the problem or if I can expect it to resurface. If it does I will post again with more info. If not, I am still interested to know if anyone has had a similar experience or if this worked for other tip owners.
Interesting. A standard ODB2 reader won't show Tiptronic faults. You'll need a Porsche-specific diagnostic tool to do that. Where did you find the reset instructions? I'd like to try it if there are ones for the MK-I Tiptronic.
Wyovino, you're right about the inexpensive code reader; I think the only transmission info is fluid temperature. I'm looking at options for something more sophisticated. Concerning the reset, as I mentioned I didn't find anything Porsche specific, but stuff like https

that says a BMW based reset worked on their 996. Search "Tiptronic reset" and you'll see similar descriptions to reset VW, MB etc.
I may have somehow wound up in limp mode, but I would have expected a light or more lasting issues. Time will tell. Maybe others can enlighten.
In limp mode one (or more) of the lights in the gear display will flash. I don't remember which but it would be noticeable. The MK-II Tiptronic was made by Mercedes, the MK-I was made be ZF, so I don't know if the reset procedure would be the same.

Thanks for posting that!
