Suggestion
I just replaced the bottom cushion on my driver's seat (the new heated set element came with the cushion) and I could tell a marginal improvement at best - and that was on the driver's side.

Now for you other two, maybe your wifes just don't have the same passion and use the seat as an excuse?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, all I did was pull this back as you can see with my hand, folded a small hand towel and played with position until I found where it worked for me.
03 base Carerra with stock seats and full leather. Wifey doesn't like how "narrow and hard" they feel on her shoulders.
Options?
Re-cushion?
Buy new ones? (not the wife, she's a keeper!)
I have stock full leather seats. I am 6'2", 210 #'s, an old guy and I find the seats very comfortable. Are they Cadillac/Lexus/Bentley/Rolls Royce comfortable? No! They are sports car comfortable, as they should be. My guess is the seats will grow on her the more she is in the car.
If they are the comfort seats with the "supple leather" I think you're cooked; those are the softest, widest seats there are. Like this:
Anything else will be narrower and with thicker bolsters, like these comfort seats with perforated "sport" leather:
If your car has sport seats, which have extra "wings" in the shoulder area like below, then you could potentially switch to standard seats to get rid of those and ease the pressure on your wife's shoulders.
I just drove from Seattle to Omaha in with my son in his Boxster (father/son bonding trip) and the standard seats (which are the same as 996) were perfect....never felt uncomfortable during the 2 day drive. I think the seats are amazing.
I am 5'11", around 185 lbs. and find the 996 comfort seats to be right at the bottom with e36 M3 "Vader" seats, in terms of comfort. The seat back is really where my problem is, the way it is shaped I feel like a little kid sitting on edge of a chair. I find 997 sport seats to be VERY comfortable and also my wife's Cayenne. I am trying to find a decent Recaro or 997 manual seats to swap out the 996 comfort seats.
I have the standard perforated seats and when I first got the car 6 months ago I thought they were a tad narrow in the shoulders.. (5'10 165#, but broad shouldered). After a weekend in them doing an 800 mile road trip however, I grew to love them. I found that if you sink down and settle into the seat they are near perfect, and hold you tight..if you sit up ON the seat.. then it feels like you will slide off and your shoulders sit on it as well. My wife has the same complaint as yours unfortunately...working on that.
I'm not sure about your seats, but my "comfort" leather seat (Porsche), the centre section of the back is actually separate from the side bolsters. If you reach your hand in, you can slide it up behind the centre section separate from the remainder of the seat. Maybe try sliding a thin cushion or even a towel up there to see if you can adapt it to suit your wife better. I know I added lumbar support to mine this way, with a folded towel, and it has never moved.
I'm 6'1" and with a bad back(3 level fusion down low) and would like to see how you did the lumbar support. Any pics?
Now for you other two, maybe your wifes just don't have the same passion and use the seat as an excuse?
Kidding of course.
Back date it with these...

If the complaint is regarding the passenger seat, I can't imagine re-cushioning will make much of a difference. Its been my experience that the passenger seat gets hardly any wear compared to the driver's. I just replaced the bottom cushion on my driver's seat (the new heated set element came with the cushion) and I could tell a marginal improvement at best - and that was on the driver's side.
So, all I did was pull this back as you can see with my hand, folded a small hand towel and played with position until I found where it worked for me. I guess you could also add one of those little adjustable airbag type lumbar supports under there as well and have adjustability.
For the OP, perhaps adding a larger towel or similar up the length of the back would raise your wife out of the "cup" enough to be more comfortable.
I have the stock full leather seats and thought they were awesome until i fitted a set of hard back sport seats in my buddy's targa, SOO much better! Not more cushion, just fit my frame much better. It's funny, because people say the sport seats are narrower, but i find it quite the opposite. I have problems sitting just right in the stockers, but the sport seats cradle me like my momma used to, lol. Of course all this is subjective, i'd suggest hitting a cars and coffee, a set of hard backs and see if they'll let you pop a squat. I plan to do the same soon w/ a pair of 997 seats as either those or hard backs will be going into my C4s at some point.
It would help a lot to see a picture of what you have now. If you don't have comfort seats with supple leather, it's definitely worth having her sit in a 996 equipped with them. The good news is that, if you had to change out your seats for supple leather seats, you could probably find someone who would trade even. Comfort seats seem to be "love or hate" based upon comments I've seen on RL, so I would guess there some who would probably happily trade their comfort seats for non-comfort seats.
I agree. Don't buy a new wife. That would be morally wrong. Keep the wife and just get a mistress to ride with you in the Porsche.
