Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced a perfectly good battery with a higher cranking amp rating, hoping that would fix it, it didn't.

It's had the "slow-crank" since I bought it so I'm going to replace the starter cable and starter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1999 996 Coupe with 90.5K miles. It's had the "slow-crank" since I bought it so I'm going to replace the starter cable and starter. While it's apart I thought I'd do some other stuff. I have in mind to install the RSS intake but I haven't seen much recent discussion on it. Has anyone done this? Think it's worth $900?
Anything else you guys think is worth doing while it's down? IMSB and rear main seal were done at 60K by previous owner (not that I'm dropping the motor). Other than the slow start, it runs and drives great.
You can always think waterpump and low temp thermostat. Other then that, I think you are OK!! Air intake? I have read a lot that people in the end go back to stock so I would not spend that 900$ on that!
+996 on the WP (and t-stat, serp belt, coolant tank/cap). how are your brakes (pad, rotors, fluid)? tranny fluid flush and fill? suspension refresh? alignment? battery? alternator?
IMHO, the $900 can be better spent elsewhere (curious what "power" gains they are CLAIMING for the intake.)
I would keep the stock filter box. Their intake plenum looks like a better design than the stock one, and they claim newer Porsche design is similar to their aftermarket; haven't verified that. Cutaway: Stock vs. IPD
My slow crank was from a voltage regulator on the alternator resulting in low battery. What voltage are you reading? Should be 14+ at start settling to high 13's after warm up.
If you don't have dates on them: AOS, WP, belt, plugs&coils
While you are in there, give these a good luck to see if you need to replace them: coolant tank, coolant hoses, oil filler, the plastic tubes for the plugs.
It is 14.3 VDC, I've got a plug in Bluetooth adapter that reads voltage when it starts. I replaced a perfectly good battery with a higher cranking amp rating, hoping that would fix it, it didn't.
