I am guessing I can get the thing covered for $200, and I paid $130 for a very nice used console to cover so I would not be without my original one, so we are talking $555 total which isn't chump change but still less than the ones being sold elsewhere.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car has "full leather" but of course the console is not leather. I think it would be a nice upgrade to cover it and would also be more durable than the scratch prone painted finish. So, I have a very capable local guy who can cover it and I have been considering purchase of the leather material from World Upholstery. Has anyone been down this road and have another supplier to suggest? The logical thing to do is buy a half-hide but at $225 maybe there is a less expensive alternative?

POST 2Original post

$225? for leather? That sounds pretty cheap to me.....by the time you are done, it's going to be a small part of the whole procurement. FYI, I bought a factory black center console that was leather covered from ebay.de Post pictures if you do it!

POST 3Original post

Ive seen posted here that Pedro's Porsche does Leather interior covering http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site/Products.html

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, there are a couple of places I can just buy a leather covered console - usually on an exchange or core charge basis. But my current console is partial leather and I trust my local guy's skills. And no shipping! So I just wondered if this is the going price for a half hide of leather or not? I don't buy this stuff every day! I am guessing I can get the thing covered for $200, and I paid $130 for a very nice used console to cover so I would not be without my original one, so we are talking $555 total which isn't chump change but still less than the ones being sold elsewhere. I guess the point is, at $225 for a half hide, how much cheaper can it be? Probably not much (if any). I located a few other leather suppliers but most want to sell a full hide which I don't need.

POST 5Original post

I'm in the same situation Jim. I ordered a sample (sent to me free) from a company called Global upholstery. The cost is $5.25 s/f on full hide, and $5.50/sf on half hides. (Not sure what half hide measure, as I'm new to this), but you can order any size you would like, calculated by square inch (price will be probebly higher). If their product is half as good as their customer service, I'm in a good spot. Will let you know how the sample looks when I'll get it. Will also be interested to do a "group" porchese, and don't mind even shipping my console to your guy. The 2 local upholstery shops I visited quoted me as if they are rocket surgeons.

Hmmm...well, I didn't actually ask him for an estimate on covering this thing so maybe I better! He had suggested the half-hide, knowing it would be plenty or even too much but he assumed it would be cheaper than buying it by the inch. I was told .30 per sq. inch so if I only need a piece as small as 18X36 it would be cheaper to buy it that way but not much cheaper and no extra to play with. I will try to talk to my guy today, but I am on the way out of town so it could be Monday. I'll let you know what I learn. He could practice on yours and then do a really good job on mine!

POST 7Original post

FYI, you'll need some very, very thin material.

Classic9leather shop makes a leather piece identical to the oem ones

i just received an email from them. $560 without side trim and lid cover. +shipping 2 ways (about $70 from Florida) but it does look like they are doing a very nice job. very nice pics on their website. thanks for the tip.

POST 10Original post

Why don't you just find a leather console cover on eBay?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 12834093

im looking. didn't find yet.

POST 12Original post

I bought one but I don't remember the cost. I'm thinking it was about $60. Good luck.

POST 13Original post

Hi guys. I guess I didn't mention that, but I'm on the look for a black leather consule.

POST 14Original post

If you had full leather, that would have console leather too? Mine does

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12840275

The option list for my car reads CZ Graphite Grey Full Leather. The storage compartment lid, e-brake handle, etc. are all covered in leather but the main console (called lower console?) is not.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 12840331

I always assumed it was called the center console. Meh, just semantics. Most of us have the same POS soft touch painted one, so we know what you're referring to

POST 17Original post

If you're still looking for some leather, you might try Buffalo Bill's - he doesn't tend to have a lot of inventory, but you don't need THAT much...

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just being too logical I guess; there is an upper console, right? But the other one is center console. I knew that.

POST 19Original post

The center console is the armrest location. The thing between the dash and the center console is commonly called the lower console and/or the front center console. Using the word "lower" is a bit of a misnomer since there's no corresponding "upper" console - the topmost 2 DIN openings are part of the dash.

POST 20Original post

the big part is called the rear center console

POST 21Original post

got the sample yesterday from Global upholstery. looks identical to the leather i have in my car. although i'm back on the fence (thinking maybe to get a CF console), i'm going to order half a hide, approx 25 SF for $138.00. that should be more than enough to do some staff i have in mind. will wait to see how Jim's console came out

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well that's a great price and makes me wish maybe I had shopped around some more as mine will be maybe $75 - $100 more than that. It should ship Thursday (tomorrow) so maybe next week i will take it to my upholstery guy. Not expecting much to happen on this for a while though - I am not in a hurry and, after all, it is the Holiday season. Watch this space for an update!

POST 24Original post

Carbon fiber trim in cars that are not made of carbon fiber is getting seriously played out.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 12851233

That's usually what happens once any car falls into the Honda price range...

POST 26Original post

OK OK, I get it: Not everyone likes carbon fiber. Better than nicked up soft touch Porsche paint, however. Replaced almost every scrap of mine. Whosoever came up with that s**t needs a beating.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source posts: 12851233, 12851317

Totally agree. So if someone wants to sale very cheap or give away his CF parts, please PM me and I will do you a favor and take it of your hands.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 12853144

I'm not knocking CF, but CF overlays that actually increase parts' weights do make me go hmm. As far as the paint, I'm with you. Same crap covering the center console of my '96 Corvette, but At least Chevy made it obvious that the C4 was as much off-the-shelf as possible, which helps explain but in no way excuses the mix of standard and metric fasteners. That is just f---ing wrong and evil.

POST 30Original post

Hi Jim. Was wondering if you ever came around to get your consule appolstered, and if so, how did it come out. Thanks. Meir.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meir I did a wrap up (pun!) on this on my other console thread here; https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-question.html Turned out great but seemed to be a lot more trouble than it appeared at the beginning. I have enough material left to do maybe 2 more consoles so you definitely don't need a half hide.

POST 32Original post

Thanks for the reply Jim. Looks like your guy did a grate job. I ended up getting the CF console.
