we recplaced it and adjusted it all as set on the old booster.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys.
My '98 996 C2 has some weird brake issue at the moment.
When I brake the pedal tends to 'stick' a bit, mostly just for like a second or two, and then it comes back up.
Very annonying when driving, sometimes I have to assist with my right foot, to pull the brake pedal back up a bit so the brakes are fully loose...
There's no issue with the braking itself and the pedal remain firm when pressing, but it's the release of the brakes (pedal coming back up) that's dragging a bit and it's an uncomfortable feel when driving.
A few remarques :
- brake fluid has been changed yesterday and only helped a little bit
- brake pads are good
What do you think? Brake booster? Main brake cilinder? Caliper seals? Vacuum leak on the booster? Something else??
Please help
Water intrusion into the brake booster. Check the drain holes around the battery area and see if they are clogged.
Porsche has a TSB on this and the remedy is to replace the booster and the linkage/accordion to the latest updated ones.
Yes the holes were clogged and we had to drain that area!!
So you believe the brake booster is shot? Can't the water be drained?
"the remedy is to replace the booster and the linkage/accordion to the latest updated ones"
Could you go a little deeper into that matter, really intrested!
Thanks for fast response
Yes, brake booster is full of rust inside by now. Also Porsche redesigned the linkage and that boot to make the linkage weather proof to avoid re-occurrence. I saw the TSB before which details the exact parts and installation procedures you would need. I could get the TSB from Renntech before but now they've removed all the TSBs (copyright issues) but maybe you can ask Loren on Renntech where to get that TSB.
Yes the brake booster was filled with rust and water!
Now... I got a new booster... we recplaced it and adjusted it all as set on the old booster.
Problem... the pedal goes way too deep, and there's not as much braking force as before. On the other hand, the pedal does return to Original position, what it didn't do with the faulty boosters...
Any thoughts?
It sounds like you may have air in a brake line. Air compresses; brake fluid doesn't. When you have air in a brake line, the brakes are spongy and less effective, but the pedal still operates correctly.
Do a full flush of the brake system if you haven't already done so. If you have, you need to bleed the system again.
Vintagespeed - I'm glad you've figured out the problem with the brakes. I'm curious about your avatar - more specifically the front bumper on your car. Did you put it on, or was it on it when you bought the car? Do you know the manufacturer? And finally, I'd love to see a closer/larger photo...
no we didn't replace the master cilinder, as there was nothing wrong with it.
we put on new brake fluid, and did a decent air removal with in a professional garage.
Any thoughts? Does it require special measures like Porsche sometimes requires?
@dporto, I did put it on meself :

Wow, it looks nice!
Manufacturer? Material? What did it cost? How was fitment? How much did paint cost you? Etc...
Thanks for the description, we're trying again tomorrow.
As on the bumper, it's this one (from Germany) :
