I am doing a bunch of coolant type work (third radiator, water pump etc) and thought I should change the coolant tank also.

I've read bad experience online using aftermarket tank so I don't recommend it at all.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
I am doing a bunch of coolant type work (third radiator, water pump etc) and thought I should change the coolant tank also. I noticed on Pelican a wide price dependency from the Porsche OEM to the other companies. My question is anyone have any issues with the cheaper priced tanks?
There are three tanks priced at 198.00, 217.50 and 588.50.

Thanks
I've read bad experience online using aftermarket tank so I don't recommend it at all. Check out sunsetporscheparts.com for good deals on genuine parts.
I also had bad "bargain" coolant tank. If you buy from Pelican, at least you'll have no problems getting them to ccept a defect returned.
Before you begin the task ,you need a set of special/remote hose clamp pliers(MayHew) and a U-Lift or other means of burping it !Lots in Search.
And make a drawing of the connections. It is easy (& very expensive) to muddle them
Be sure you're looking at the correct tank for your car. IIRC the design of the coolant tank changed between the Mk1 (1998-2001) and Mk2 (2002+) versions of the 996. Whenever I've looked at replacement tanks the Mk2's have always been significantly more expensive. GL!
for mark 2 - I could only find oem tank - and dealer site like sonnen / suncoast etc. was better than the third party sites . And, yes , hose clamp is almost impossible to remove without special tool ....
I just did a search in our system on the cheapest option (996-106-147-56-Y-INT) and there have been no returns on it for this year (2016). It does have a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty as well. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I bought an aftermarket tank from Pelican and it cracked about 11 months later....not Pelican's fault. I replaced it with a genuine Porsche tank....should of done that first.
I didn't go back to Pelican for a warranty claim....was in FL on vacation, chalked it up to experience. I know better than to buy non-OEM parts.
So how many years of service is a reasonable expectation for a pressurized plastic tank ? Some Honda/ Toyota tanks last only 10-15 years. But at least they are cheaper.
117k miles on what I believe is my OEM tank
2500 hard track miles last year
I ordered the OEM Porsche tank from Pelican but haven't installed it yet. Will be doing so this winter.
Preventative Maintenance is a real thing. Good luck with yours! (Check the cap and the level sensor too)
