Good trip down but lots of traffic, still able to run 70 to 85 MPH most of the way.

A gentleman stopped us in Arbys where I had some mystery meat, and said my passenger rear running light was out.

Haven't decided whether or not I will run radar detector or just relax and go with the flow.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wife and I are driving down to Fripp Isl. from Seneca SC in order to spend time with rest of my family side in a rented beach house. We are both looking forward to the drive, about 5 hours. My wife loves riding in the Porsche. Haven't decided whether or not I will run radar detector or just relax and go with the flow. Where are you guys going? RBC

POST 2Original post

I'll be going from Pittsburgh to Oak Island NC to spend some time at the beach. Haven't done a 9 hour drive in my 996 yet. Looking forward to it. Although I am trying to decide if I want to throw the snows on her before I leave. It looks good right now, but those mountains in WVA can really get ya.

POST 3Original post

May have to take a pre-turkey cruise along Mulholland... Does that count??

POST 4Original post

Maine to Conn., Conn. to NYC, but NOT in my Porsche. Our sons and their families(5 grandkids) are spending time in the Big Apple with my wife and I for turkey day festivities.

POST 5Original post

Going exactly 1/4 mile where the folks live. Looking forward to putting nephews in the back seat, revving up and making some smoke after dinner. Sort of an annual tradition. Kids love it, sisters don't. Last year I gave them a welding demonstration. They like sparks.

POST 6Original post

We do a 200+ mile loop up the 15 to Riverside, across the 91 and down the 405 to Irvine, and then down the 5 back home to San Diego. Nothing takes the suck out of 3-4 hours of driving like doing it in a 911.

POST 7Original post

I will be going to get my "new to me" car. I live in Vegas and am taking the wife and kids to Palm Springs to go pick it up. Super excited and will post my own introduction thread when I pick the car up and get it back to my house!

POST 8Original post

Looking for a reason to take her over Hopland pass on the way to Clear Lake. Did it in my Mini and simultaneously wore a giant grin whilst nearly pooping my pants. Can't imagine it in the Porsche.

Is Fripp Island in decent shape now? I was in Hilton Head 2 weeks ago and it was still in bad shape. Pickney Island was still closed and there were trees and debris everywhere... Good luck and hope you have an enjoyable holiday (and drive of course)

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fripp seems to be in good shape. We are in a house on the beach on Tarpon Blvd. Most of debris has been picked up on the Blvd. Good trip down but lots of traffic, still able to run 70 to 85 MPH most of the way. A gentleman stopped us in Arbys where I had some mystery meat, and said my passenger rear running light was out. He had a shirt on with BMW on it and I asked him what BMW he was driving. He said he used to have one but really wanted a Porsche. RBC

not cold enough this week, but hopefully in 2 more weeks http://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-s...nksgiving.html

POST 13Original post

I would like to report that I did the Pittsburgh to Oak Island trip with out a hiccup. Totaled out ~1450 miles. She drove like a charm. It is funny seeing those pick ups from hell trying to keep up on the tighter bends. Found that 5th gear is really your friend. And I have finally became used to dodging potholes with my rear tires. I was catching the extra width on the edges of the potholes. Got some extra topless time. Very nice!! Two minor annoyances: 1. I can only get 12 gallons in the tank, I know there is a recall. I will have to check. Or maybe I have an extra 4 gallons left when I hit E. Don't know. 2. My out dated Valentine V1 picks up Escalades and Navigators extremely well. I had to shut it down in traffic. Might have to bite the bullet and just buy a new one.

You do this by choice? All those freeways suck! I went up to Gardnerville, NV but took my Jeep instead of the Porsche because of this:

POST 15Original post

My family and I drove to Orlando for the first half of Thanksgiving week, then down to Cape Coral for the 2nd half of the week. We took the Acura RL instead of the 911 due to luggage needs. HOWEVER, since we did Thanksgiving at our house on the Saturday after, I ended up taking several friends, family members (and their girlfriends) high speed rides on some curvy roads near me in the 911. Giving my cousin vertigo going around a long curve behind our nearest grocery store was awesome....

POST 16Original post

you should take them on 19, Thats REALLY AWSOME

Choice...well, no. It wouldn't be my choice, but my wife very much enjoys being with family, so we do the tour. On the plus side, it's way better than it used to be. We used to take 2 full days to do variations of our original holiday circuit (La Mesa to south Riverside to Big Bear on day 1; Big Bear to Banning to Irvine and back to La Mesa on day 2) every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter:
