Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I then put them aside, as I was just getting to the point of replacing my IMSB and still had a few other things to do before putting everything back together and installing the headers.
Leading evidence: 'Replace sound of the car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'headers i have' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace imsb and still had a few other things' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I suspect the headers I have on the car now are the same/similar to the schnell ones you have.

Finally, the following day he gets back to me once again and apologizes and says that although the photo is different, these are actually the Schnell headers that they advertise (In addition he promises that they'll change the photo's on the website and on Ebay).

I'd rather spend $100 to change the sound than $1500.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

For those of you who have done any research on headers you probably know that Vertex advertises a header set for the NA M96 that has a different design from many of the "generic" sets that you see - They claim they are "Schnell" brand headers you can see them here:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I purchased my 996, it came with unidentified aftermarket headers. I've already weld repaired them once, and I smoke tested them yesterday to find they are leaking again.
I feel like it's time to bite the bullet and buy another set of headers. Does anyone have recommendations? The fabspeed sport headers look nice, but after reading about Cuda's experience with them, I am a bit leary.
Used X51 headers would be ideal. I'm not sure if headers need to be CARB certified in CA, but anything with a patina/used or oem would probably draw less attention.
That being said, I'm not opposed to buying new headers. I have nearly 2 years till my next smog check.
Kline makes equal lenght long tube headers.
The collectors are well designed.
I have 15,000 miles on mine with no regrets.
There are some famous brand name performance companies that offer headers made by other lesser manufacturers and they are rebranded.
Sambo, I think is still a sponsor on here. Fair deals.
no affiliation with Kline or Sambo, just happy with product.
Just as an aside to this thread and somewhat of an alert/warning. I bought a set of headers from Vertex when I was doing all my engine work earlier this year (my stock headers were ok, but the flanges were very rusted and flaking away - I figured while I was doing all the work I may as well replace them...). When I received the headers, I checked them over very quickly just to make sure that there was no shipping damage - all good. I then put them aside, as I was just getting to the point of replacing my IMSB and still had a few other things to do before putting everything back together and installing the headers. https://www.vertexauto.com/headers-h...xoCXo8QAvD_BwE
(the photo's show a design similar to the "Agency" power performance headers)
Fast forward a few weeks and I'm ready install the headers... I take them out of the box, and I immediately get an uneasy feeling because as I unwrap the headers I realize they look exactly like the generic sets that can be gotten for $100 - $150...Not like the photo shown on their site and on Ebay (where I made a "best offer" and got them for $600 - which I felt was a decent deal at the time). As I'm in "engine building mode" and just want to get my motor put back together, I go ahead and decide to bolt up one of the headers. Upon getting to the first end bolt on the flange I realize that the flanged bolts I'm using won't clear the end pipes (both sides are like this) Hmmm... something's not right here. At that point I decided to hold everything and contact Vertex - maybe they made an honest mistake and sent me the wrong headers. The following day, I contact Vertex and am put on the phone with "Mike". I explain my concerns to Mike and tell him the headers I received can be bought anytime on Ebay for $125 and that they're not the headers they advertise in the photo's on their site and on Ebay. Mike is very responsive and concerned and promises to get back to me shortly. We go back and forth a few times that same day - exchanging photo's, emails and phone calls. Finally, the following day he gets back to me once again and apologizes and says that although the photo is different, these are actually the Schnell headers that they advertise (In addition he promises that they'll change the photo's on the website and on Ebay). He assures me that the headers cost them $400 a set, and if I'd like to keep the headers he can refund me $200 or If I'd like a full refund he can do that too. At that point I opted for the full refund as even though he was a nice guy and gave me good service, several things just didn't add up - It was clear to me they were selling cheapo headers as something else. I did receive my full refund - which I have to commend! I'm just glad it worked out, as it could have gotten ugly. ***Unfortunately, Vertex continues to advertise these "Schnell" headers both on their website and on Ebay*** Buyer beware...
Dporto,
I suspect the headers I have on the car now are the same/similar to the schnell ones you have. Schnell advertises their headers as having two weld passes along their joints.
About 75% of the welds on my header collector have only a root pass and no cover pass, and this is where the cracks have started. Just an FYI as the headers are far too dirty/contaminated to lay a solid weld.
I just bought a set of ebay headers a couple weeks ago for $110. The fit was perfect and they completely changed the sound of the car. No power differences that I've noticed.
^^I guess you didn't read the whole post 'cause I don't have the headers. I sent them back for a full refund (which I commend Vertex/Mike for - really excellent costumer service!)... it was just my gut feeling that they were generic "$100" headers... good luck with yours!
With a quality made set of tuned equal length headers you will notice an increase in power, real hp.

I also had to send set of headers back, to England.
I received them and each side had a primary tube that was two piece and seem welded
The manufacturer addmitted they photo shopped image to hide welds.
