I refinished mine with leather dye, but there was a recent thread where others have used other methods, including wrapping everything in new leather.

My upholsterer used a skiving tool to thin the leather around the power window/ashtray panel so it would fit in the hole.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can someone tell me if the factory leather option for the rear center console included covering the fascia panel around the power window buttons and/or covering of the ash tray lid?

POST 2Original post

Not to my knowledge. I have the full leather in my '02 C2, and the console area and power windows, etc are not leather. I refinished mine with leather dye, but there was a recent thread where others have used other methods, including wrapping everything in new leather.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am 99% sure the leather rear center console is a standalone option. You don't get leather there unless you order it specifically, regardless of "full leather". So my question is directed to those who have this leather console option. I have an old thread started on wrapping the console in leather, which I will update soon, but for now I am just trying to decide how much of it to cover.

POST 4Original post

Yes there is. They are hard to find. It took me about 7 months of searching to find one. (In the 7 months, I saw only another one, which was the wrong color) The entire center console is leather, and the ashtray box lid and window button trim have a leather look to them as well. Here is the unit I purchased. I can post pics once I install http://www.ebay.com/itm/222044433493

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the eBay link. The power window button trim and ash tray look like the ordinary "soft touch" stuff to me - not leather like the rest. The seam is interesting too. My console lid is already leather, I guess as part of "full leather", and it doesn't have a stitched seam.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, I see. So it has a leather like texture but is a coating and not actually leather. Is that what you have? The challenge here is that if you cover the console with leather, there isn't much room for the power window fascia plate and if you then cover this plate with leather, it may not all fit together. I am sure there are special or thinner leather materials (or leather-like?) available to Porsche that would solve this issue.

POST 8Original post

Mine had the full leather option and the rear center console was not covered in leather. I purchased a pre cut leather cover from classic9 leather. Great quality leather. I also had the horseshoe covered by Porsche exclusive option folks in California. Very happy I did no worries about chips & scuffs.

POST 9Original post

off topic, but how's the car? What did you do with the blue lights under the headlights?

I can confirm for you Monday. That was just a picture the seller texted to me last week.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Greg! Car is great - did some PMs like water pump, etc. and nothing really needed to be done and was all original. Did oil analysis and came back clean. Just did 1500 mile trip to FL and it was flawless. Just working on the cosmetics. And those stupid LED lights were just stuck in there and were the first thing "fixed" and it took about 60 seconds. I feel like I got lucky with this one. Thanks once more for your help.

POST 12Original post

Glad it is working. I agree with wrapping the center console in leather. The blue exterior with those wheels is still a killer combo.

POST 13Original post

Finished installing my leather console this afternoon. The main piece is wrapped in leather, and so is the ashtray trim & the ashtray itself. It's wrapped in the same manner/material as other panels in the interior. Same as the leather pads on the sides of the console. The soft touch pieces and leather wrapped pieces have the same part number. The only difference I saw was the leather wrapped pieces had special stickers and handwriting. I was able to transfer all of my switches and key lock directly to the oem leather wrapped one without any fitment issues. I've read with the aftermarket ones, you need to trim the openings before wrapping in leather. Just something to keep in mind. Try taking a photo of your console with flash, and prepare to be horrified. I am extremely happy with my upgrade.

Not sure if I answered this question. The photo the seller sent me had a lot of shine to it. The leather was quite oily when I got it. After cleaning with einszett cockpit premium, the leather is now matte and looks fantastic.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info. I think trimming this in leather could be tricky but will talk to my upholstery guy about it. So the power window fascia is the same leather as the rest of the console?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finished my leather console project and thought I would post some comments and pictures. It was a journey. I got samples from several places and placed an order for a half hide. The hide ordered didn't match the sample in terms of grain, so I started over with another supplier and got something I could use. The half hide was way too much. Probably could do 3 consoles with a half hide. My upholsterer used a skiving tool to thin the leather around the power window/ashtray panel so it would fit in the hole. It is snug but fits nicely. He had a really hard time stretching the material on that concave section right about where your hand rests on the e-brake handle. If the overall leather piece had been thinned, it would have been easier. He had lots of time in the work. He also could not get the glue to adhere properly unless the soft touch material was completely removed, so I used lacquer thinner and a dull knife and literally scraped it all off to bare plastic. Overall, I'm thinking that having this work done by Classic9 would be quicker, easier and cost effective. I ended up with about $600 in the whole thing, but my guy didn't charge me for all his hours and I did get the various plastic parts, including the power seat button surround, painted with custom mixed enamel. It doesn't look like a very good color match in the flash photo so I included the natural light overhead to give you a better idea of the match. This car has "full leather" and none of the components perfectly match each other anyway.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
