Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have poured over the responses that I have received, cleaned, lubed, checked for any obstructions both the top mechs.
Leading evidence: 'Check any obstructions both the top mechs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rear deck lid was not closed' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any obstructions both the top mechs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Fit the same allen wrench that you used on the pump in there and rotate them to raise the lateral flaps.

Next morning I figured out my problem was the rear deck lid was not closed, so I created the issue my self so I was not in the same place you are

Suggestion
Putting it back up is just the reverse except you will need to take the plastic cover off the windshield latch assy and then use the hard top tool to close the latch.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK.....my top retracts fine 2/3 of the way down then stops. It goes back up and locks in place fine too. To get it to operate I have to use the "key in the door" solution. The Spoiler light is on, so maybe the controller thinks that it is not retracted. It is. The dash switch does not work...just makes a couple of "clicks". I have disassembled the Spoiler mech. It is clean and lubed and the micro switches seem to be ok. I have disassembled the Top mech. and, again all clean, fluid full, no obstructions. I had to replace the battery this Winter...some here say that could have messed up the "calibration" of the top up & down extents. I have a Durametric....and, no, it will not set this calibration. Two Porsche Dealers are 4 hours away North & South from me. I'm ok with using the "Manual Retract Wrench" as I only drive when it's not raining. But, has anyone had experience with this? I am told that this will "definitely" mess up the "calibration. THOUGHTS???
OK.....I agree that my problem may be a micro switch......or the top is "out of calibration" for closing completely. So......
1. Where are those switches? I am still searching the diagrams that several of you directed me to.....
2. Could me having to replace the battery cause the top to go "uncalibrated"? It worked fine last Fall.
3. Is the Dealer the only place I can get the top "re-calibrated"?
4. I may be reduced to opening and closing the top manually....have not tried it yet, I did find the tool. Is this operation simple or a P.I.T.A.?
Thanks once more for your help,
Larry in Mount Shasta, CA
I don't know the answer absolutely, but I did understand that "if" you do use the manual operation that recalibration will be required.
There are a bunch of posts about topping up the hydraulics. Maybe that might be the issue?
I checked the Hydraulic Fluid Res. it is full. I also performed a lot of cleaning and lubing of Top and Spoiler mechs. No remaining mechanical issues..... I believe. Just trying find someone who has used the manual Top retract tool and how easy (or difficult) it might be...........
New thread, same guy responding - sorry
When I got mine and I had top issues so I did the manual top retraction with the tool. Next morning I figured out my problem was the rear deck lid was not closed, so I created the issue my self so I was not in the same place you are
But I had to go to the dealer to get it re-calibrated - they charged me 1/2 hour of labor
OK, I see you have decided to go manual. I know there is a tutorial around somewhere but I cannot find it right now. So from where you are now.
Fold down the back seats.
There should be two screws holding the carpet/panel on behind the seats, Remove the panel.
You will find a long allen wrench in there. Take this and open the screw ON THE PUMP about 1/2 turn counter clockwise. This will release the hydraulic pressure.
Carefully by hand push the top all the way down.
Now pop out the two circular (in your case black) covers on the outer side of where your roll bars are. Look down in there and you will see an allen screw just outboard of the big hole where the hard top fits into. Fit the same allen wrench that you used on the pump in there and rotate them to raise the lateral flaps.
Once the lateral flaps are fully raised and the soft top is pushed all the way down, use the same allen wrench just to the right of where you released the pressure for the hydraulic pump. Turning this will close the rear hatch.
Putting it back up is just the reverse except you will need to take the plastic cover off the windshield latch assy and then use the hard top tool to close the latch.
If I can find the tutorial with pictures, or if anyone else knows where it is, I will link it.
PM me or post here if you have any other questions. BTW: this is covered really good in the owners manual. If you don't have one PM me.

kromdom.......I have gone through the tech. part of the article before....but I'm now reading all of those posts to the Pelican Guru. Good info. A couple of things I haven't tried yet (tomorrow). Man, those Tops ARE a P.I.T.A. and not just for me! Sounds like going to the "manual operation" of the Top will cause me to spend a lot of $'s later when I can ever get it to the Dealer in Bend, OR 4 hours away! Who knows?
Thanks though, Lars in Mount Shasta, CA
Or...as dgjks6 posts...for 1/2 hour of shop time the dealer could recalibrate the top and you could be driving your car instead of reading a hundred old RL posts and scratching your head.
Convertible top clam shell.jpg
This switch (small red dot in the center of the pic) tells the computer your shell is open in order to complete the cycle. It may look like its making contact but a small wear on the plastic housing can prevent the contacts from actually working. Slide a spacer under the switch and make sure that the arm (at the end of the cable) makes contact. This was the problem with mine.
Good luck.
OK.......it appears to me that this micro switch tells the system that the top cover is closed. My problem doesn't seem to be with the cover retracting, but with the top only going down 2/3 of the way. I have poured over the responses that I have received, cleaned, lubed, checked for any obstructions both the top mechs. and the cover retract mech. and the spoiler retract mech.
I am pretty convinced that I must now make the 8 hour round trip to my Dealer in Bend, OR to have them re-calibrate the top mech. with their Magic Wand (Porsche System Tester 2). Wish I could make that drive with my top down. Well, maybe on the return trip!
Any other advice, ideas, tips........are welcome!
