Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought I would put this here as this issue I am facing with my 987.1 Cayman S is with the same generation engine as the 996 cars... anyone with any useful comments or thoughts would be appreciated: https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...place-dme.html

POST 2Original post

I've read the thread there. What is the actual error code(s) and do you have Durametric? Also, did you try another shop for a second opinion?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

P2196 -- O2 sensor signal biased/stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1 I do have a Durametric, and I have cleared the code for now... I think it will come back after some additional driving. I drove the car about 800 miles since it passed smog with all clear no codes before the CEL came on again. I have not yet taken it to another shop. Thanks for your reply.

POST 4Original post

Since you have Durametric, you can log the voltage of the four O2 sensors and rpm. Best is to log a cold start for 2 minutes. Then once the engine has warmed up, just drive normally stop and go and log for 5 to 10 minutes. Or if you know approximately when the CEL will trip, you can log up to and pass that point. Basically you're trying to see if the pre-cat sensors (on both banks) swing between 0.3 to 0.7v and the post-cat sensors more or less stay at 0.7v while the engine is idling. Based on the code above assuming Durametric's description is correct you should see bank 1 pre-cat sensor reading high (~0.7v) constantly for sometime. If you use a smartphone (pair with a wireless OBDII dongle), you can mount it in your line of sight and easily monitor the O2 voltage in real-time as you drive.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13273547

thank you - so if the behavior is as you suspect (bank 1 pre-cat sensor reading high constantly for some time), then what? what is wrong (change sensor?) and how to address? dealer tech claims to have tried to swap the 2 pre cat sensors from side to side, and it remains bank 1 that keeps saying high voltage/rich...

POST 6Original post

Then one will have to figure out why that sensor reads high persistently. 1) check wires between bank 1 sensor and DME for shorts and continuity 2) check the postcat sensor and see that also reads high Btw, I checked more and it seems your pre-cat sensors may be of the wide-band type, in which case the voltage won't be 0.3 to 0.7v. High voltage will mean lean (reverse of the traditional narrow band sensor). If that's true, you can log O2 sensing instead which will fluctuate a bit around 1.00. First thing first. We should verify what the dealer said is indeed what you see on Duramatric.

OP, can you physically see 4 or 5 wires coming out of it?
