Hi All,
I am new to the forum. So much to learn here it is great. I am working on restoring and repairing my fathers 2001 C4 996. Its such a fun and awesome car. I want to get it back into the shape it was when he was alive.
I am looking to replace the interior trim. He had custom wood trim on all the interior around the radio and elsewhere. Sun and humidity has damaged and cracked a lot of the these pieces.
I wanted to ask if there anywhere to buy these replacement parts online or elsewhere?
Thank you

Most of the time they would be ridiculously expensive. SOME of the time you can find them on craigslist or ebay from a totaled car. I recently found a lot of trim pieces from a totaled car but a lot of the trim pieces are broken. It would be cheaper and easier to have a shop recreate or cover the pieces with either leather or stick on decals. The original Porsche pieces were of not the best quality unfortunately...
Darn it. I was afraid that was the case. I am having absolutely no luck finding anything after market in regards of interior trim. I am finding decals which go over already existing trim on eBay however this is not what I am looking for.
I would post a WTB in the Marketplace. Sometimes people want to swap out their wood trim for something else and want to sell it to recoup some of the cost. Just be aware that there is more than one shade of wood trim.
Is your car a single din radio or a nav? There are two different " horseshoes" that wrap around the center area where radio/nav goes.
Also what color are your vents? The wood trim comes with different color vents.
Than in 2001 not sure of other years there is light root wood and dark root wood.
You need to figure out which you have if you are just replacing some pieces.
Than the grain . Not as important but the grain can be a problem when matching the wood trim up.
The horseshoes in wood I have seen have a separate side wood trim piece on both sides of the horseshoe. These trim pieces hold the switches and the cig lighter and so on.
Porsche also makes a horseshoe that has the side trim pieces molded as one unit but I don't think the wood pieces are done like this.
If I am confusing you I have a wood horseshoe listed on Raleigh Craig's list you can view.
I have found trim pieces for sale on eBay and at one time I think Pelican was selling some trim.
And the wood trim is very delicate and you have to be careful installing or removing it. And very expensive from the dealer.

Good luck with your restoration.
Thank barlowdo and wyovino for your help. I am going to take both of you advice. Post a WTB and also look around on craiglist.
I upload some photo links on my original post if you want to have a look. Thanks again.
The center dash trim looks good. The trim under the windshield is not worth replacing just get it out and replace with the standard color interior. The doors I would do the same those pieces are a nightmare to find and not worth it. I found some dark burlwood trim from a totaled car and the pieces are intact but very brittle. Porsche really cheaped out on this VERY expensive option.
could get standard used black trim pieces and apply wood texture stickers from etsy/ebay/ali. i know ppl laugh at the quality of those things but the oem pieces honestly aren't any more durable. take your time to clean the trim and apply the stickers properly. the result will pleasantly surprise you.
I bought a bunch of stuff off eBay- there are a couple of used parts dealers that have used interior parts in good condition... I changed out a bunch of grey for black trim to break up my interior...
likebigbumpers has the best idea IF you want to keep wood trim look. I just found a bunch of dark wood pieces off a totalled 996 some were broken and unusable some were usable Ill take better pics in daytime but steering wheel door pockets shifter rear console handbrake and horseshoes around upper center console. Broken pieces I did not use were side airvents dashtrim under windshield
also...if you are the tinkering kind like me, you'll really appreciate how durable the factory plastic pieces are (or how cheap the used pieces can be found for). between messing around with the audio system, trying different shift consoles, replacing the dozen of door microswitches, and other random fixes/mods, I probably take off most of the major interior trims at least twice a year. would be a downright nightmare if i invested hundreds into a nice wood set.
likebigbumpers and dranon thanks for the advice. I think I am going to go the route of the plastic factory pieces in any color I can get my hands on. I am then going to either have them custom painted to match the interior color I have or go the sticker route.
Do you guys know if the door panel trim had an option that was actually plastic, or was it a leather type material?
Thank you.
I am in the same boat restoring the interior of 1999 cab. I am looking into hydro dip to give me the Burl wood look. But I am struggling to find those trim pieces too.
I had great luck with Norspec Dismantling and Quality Porsche Parts. Both were willing to give me bulk discounts when I replaced my interior. They are constantly dismantling cars, so have a steady flow of fresh inventory.
Does anyone have any good resources on the actual replacement of these parts. I am going to be doing this project next weekend. I want to make sure I have all the right tools ect ahead of time.
Thanks!
What specific parts are you replacing? Good write up of rear center console here:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart..._Shift_Kit.htm
2 articles with good pics on how to remove center console here.
Thanks Dranon,
I am going to be replacing the upper dashboard parts nears the windshield. Also, will be replacing most of the parts on the interior doors.
No major changes at the center console or the dash at this time.

upper dash parts are glued on heat gun NOT TOO HOT and plastic spatula. The curved door handle just snaps on Pull and use a plastic spaula and they should just pop off. The door map pocket covers have 12 screws if I remember correctly just unscrew and then screw the new cover on. Did you get just the covers or the whole map pocket flipper? If you got the whole thing you can see the little screws just undo them then you need to get in the door pocket to unscrew those.Let me know if you need pics
with the wood trim the only quality option i've found is to ship your parts to Craft Customs in Texas. They are not cheap, but they are far cheaper than buying new parts, and the quality of their work is excellent.
The original parts were simply junk. Buying used parts is typically not an option, because even a change in humidity can cause delamination and cracking. Don't waste your time.
You might be interested to see what I did with my restomod. I had the panels recovered in leather and did hydrographics on most of the plastic. More details at
http://porsche.rossie.net
Checked out your website! Enjoyable read. I would like more info on the hydrographics. You turned your grey interior into black! Love the red stitching. More info on that, please!
Thanks kms1990, Dranon...
Hydrographics is basically painting a part with a base color, putting a pattern on it, and then painting again with clear. The pattern gets applied by dipping the part into a water vat that has the pattern floating on the surface. With 996's the hardest part is removing all the soft touch paint from the plastic. You can do it at home but if you have someone locally that does it and is good then go with that. It's a bit of an art to get the pattern to lay down well. It cost me about $1500 for all the interior plastic. It works great on plastic but also metals too. A lot of people 'cammo dip' guns. I used the technique on a jeep I did a few years ago (using digital cammo). It's still not that common in car projects it seems. I think it works if you are careful to find a tasteful pattern that fits the look you are going for.
I bought my 996 cheap with the intent of spending money to make it what I wanted. My first order of business was to get rid of the 2001 gray interior that had no contrast with the artic silver paint, plus it was in really bad condition. I started by looking at maybe getting OEM replacement parts in black, but they were expensive and the quality wasn't great. Eventually, I decided to just spend the money and have a local shop do the full interior, cost was $5K for everything in natural leather, no vinyl. I did all the disassembly/assembly they did all the covering/stitching. The only thing I didn't have done locally was the steering wheel, I ordered that from a specialty shop. The carpet was sourced used from LA Dismantlers. I sprinkled in a few new pieces, ashtray delete, console shelf to replace the CD holder etc. Mats are Lloyds.
The upholstery shop didn't have much trouble, the only thing they had to spend extra time on were the side airbag covers since they had to be semi-disassembled and reassembled.
If you guys were going to re-glue the interior wood trim parts on (ie the small piece above the nav in the below photo) what type of glue would you use?
Thanks!

@ peterp nice, thanks! I just ordered some.
Question # 456:
Does anyone have any experience pulling the pin which holds the door pocket lids in place so I can swap them out? I posted an image below to help show this. Thank you
https://ibb.co/nb1fsK
This was not easy. After you remove the door panel you need to use a small punch with a hammer to get the pin out. Punch from outside to inside lightly just keep tapping it. If you just want to replace the fascia/covers I recommend unscrewing them right while attached to the door then screw new ones I. If I remember there are 11 toro screws
Hey all, on to the next project. This one seems like it might be the hardest yet. Thanks for all your help so far.
How would you go about replacing the parts in the photos below. This is the trim right on the top of the dash right underneath the windshield. I am replacing this because the original wood trim here is cracked and broken (shown in photos). I am replacing with a standard Savannah tan part which did not have the wood trim to prevent this from happening in the future. Thanks!

The wood pieces are laminate and can be heated and pryed off. The dash pieces as far as I know you have to remove the entire dash! I hope someone else has a different solution for you but they are held on by torx screws underneath.
https://www.renntech.org/forums/topi...removal-guide/
Holy cow, remove the whole dash to get the trim pieces off? On mine all of the wood pieces have been removed, what is left is what looks like the pieces the wood adheres to.
Yes that's true but he wants to replace those pieces that the wood adheres to! Look at the pics he provided. I would suggest to remove the wood pieces and just clean up where they were laminated to. OR you can craft replacement pieces or use stickers. MUCH easier than trying to replace those dash pieces.
@Dranon, yesir it looks like its going to be a huge project. Ouch! Should have done some research before buying these parts second hand.
Any cool ideas what you might put in the place of the wood trim? Maybe I could have something custom made.
The dash pieces justsnap in to the main dash assembly,no screws from underneath.I took those panels out after the entire dash assembly was out of the car......so not sure if you can sneak them in
@Dranon replacing the door pocket lids by using the screws instead of pulling the pin was 100% the way to go. I could not get the pin out. The screw method worked excellent. Thanks!
