I am using my C4S as a daily driver, (I am close to 120K on the Targa, so wanted to give it a rest) - the Stock system in the C4S is horrible, what is a good system for under 1k - I am only in need of Great sound with Navi - no other extra are needed, which is a good brand/model do you guys recommend?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brothers, after finally making my last College payment for my 4 kids, yes, 4 - with all I spent, I could have bought a 918 spyder I am using my C4S as a daily driver, (I am close to 120K on the Targa, so wanted to give it a rest) - the Stock system in the C4S is horrible, what is a good system for under 1k - I am only in need of Great sound with Navi - no other extra are needed, which is a good brand/model do you guys recommend?

POST 2Original post

I put a Pioneer in my '01 which is also a daily driver and also has the crappy stock system and only 4 speakers. After all my research the AVH 2-din models were best bang for buck option. You'll notice a big change in sound volume and clarity. Oh, and you can do install easily yourself. Check YouTube, lots of how to videos including if you need to move AC unit down to bottom of stack. Good luck

POST 3Original post

I don't listen to the radio...the car is the only time I can think and enjoy the sensory overload that our sports cars provide.

POST 4Original post

I installed JBL GTO 329 for dash and rear side panels, and GTO 529 to replace the Bose subs. I left the door mounted subs (or are they midrange?) alone as 529 wouldn't fit without modifying speaker mounting holes on the door significantly. Sound is much clearer and clean even with factory head unit. I replaced the head unit with Kenwood 6903 (because I had to have my volume ****, and it was the last model to have it before Kenwood moved away from ***** altogether) and the sound is even better.

POST 5Original post

I installed a new Pioneer double DIN head unit with Apple CarPlay. Interestingly, Apple just announced that CarPlay will now support Waze. A huge breakthrough for those moving in the direction of interactive GPS and radar detection. /X3

POST 6Original post

I put in the Kenwood DNX944s with backup camera and Sirius etc. The radio was $999, but I spend close to $1500 after the backup camera, hidden sat antenna, pre-wire harness, and some other stuff. I did the install my self which took about 8 hours but was not too crazy. Just need to be patient and learn how to remove some interior parts etc. I am super happy with my sound system experience after living with the stock system for 2.5 years. Android auto, large display, a Sirius sat system that doesn't cut out constantly and a hands free cell phone.

I have to agree with Christian on this one. I get in my car and wan't to leave the techno distractions behind. I don't answer the phone or anything. Just me and the machine for some much needed Porsche therapy.

POST 8Original post

I agree with all that. Every time I go by some concrete road dividers I roll down the window and turn off the radio. Having said that, I drive 35 miles each way to work mostly on the highway. At some point I start to listen to music or may appreciate the display for navigation. Sometimes I might join a work call etc. Just saying, nice to have options.

POST 9Original post

I don't listen to the radio in my 996, mostly because I don't want to miss any sound of imminent engine failure :-), but also because the radio sounds so bad. Is the Becker radio the source of the poor sound? Or are the speakers to blame?

POST 10Original post

My 2002 C2 came with a nice Kenwood double din installed. I don't listen to it much, but it sounds good with the rest of the Bose system. I've thought about putting the original radio back in and installing the GT3 center console delete. I don't really need much of a radio...it covers up the sound I really like to hear, Flat6 with Fabspeed!

POST 11Original post

I'd start with a high quality head unit. Just replacing the head unit in my C4S really woke up the sound quality. It still wasn't awesome, but it was much improved once I got the equalizer settings dialed in.

POST 12Original post

I replaced speakers first and listened to CDR220 head unit, and I thought it sounded pretty nice. It got better with the new head unit, but CDR220 was fine, and if it had Bluetooth, I would have kept it.

+996 although I did add a dension gateway 500 + WMA1000 for Bluetooth - enough to keep up with a semi-new car Exhaust noise FTW though!

POST 17Original post

I've seen tons of comments by people who think it's really bad but that hasn't been my experience. I have the factory Hi Fi option and I think it sounds decent. I added blue tooth and that was a great improvement to the usability. I wouldn't mind a bit more bass but there aren't many good options without replacing most if not all of the components. My biggest complaint is the terrible AM radio reception which prevents me from listening to some baseball games, but that might be the fault of the windshield antenna and not the radio itself.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
