Earlier Wednesday morning I changed lanes twice because I noticed the drivers behind me not paying attention and texting in stop and go traffic.
Leading evidence: 'Replace lanes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I might suggest based on my experience in an accident where my vehicle was rear ended and a total loss, by a drunk driver with low insurance limits ,to review your policy limits .One night in emergency room cost just under $30,000 plus many follow up medical treatments .He had a little more then minimum coverage .If I would have had higher limits I could have piggy backed my uninsured /under insured policies from my three vehicles to pay for medical and property damages ,in calif this is legal. My expenses were paid by his insurer but I don't feel I was compensated enough for pain and suffering .The dui driver was going over 100 mph and hit me ,I was going 60 mph ,rolled four times and skidded just under a quarter mile.In some states you can go after the guilty drunk driver for punitive damages ,problem is no atty will touch it because his insurance limits were to low to be worth it to
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Someone ran a stop sign while I was in the intersection on Wednesday and almost hit my 996.
Then later that evening someone ran a red light and almost hit me in my wifes minivan.
With so many totaled 996s lately, Ive become worried about my car.
What could I expect to receive price-wise from my insurance company for my 2002 996 with 63K if someone hits and totals my 996?
Do they normally pay trade-in value?
Do they take into consideration any mods?
I always figured Id buy back for my engine and transmission at least, but with Cuda911 having a $7k+ buyback...
I have State Farm if that matters.
Help put me at ease.
This is more scary than IMS, bore scoring, intermix, etc.
Yikes! Wednesday some lady on her cell phone just starting moving right over into me at 70mph! Had to hard brake and swerve.
Insurance, it all depends on the company and if you have a loan for the car, did you get gap insurance. I'm not familiar with how State Farm does business. Fyi, the guys over on Bobistheoilguy have a lot of details about this sort of thing. If you don't get some answers here, post over there.
Maybe we need to put giant flags on our cars! I've started driving with my fog lights on all the time.
Believe it or not, I'm still waiting for my car to be inspected. Now they're saying early Monday morning. That will make it 10 days since the accident. (Allstate). I always worried about all 27 million modes of failure but didn't think about the Mack Truck scenario.
I paid cash for my car, so no loan.
I guess that helps.
I always drive with my head lights on.
Earlier Wednesday morning I changed lanes twice because I noticed the drivers behind me not paying attention and texting in stop and go traffic.
Then during lunchtime made a run to the post office when the woman ran the stopping.
Someone rear ended my BMW 135i in stop and go traffic and that dropped the value and made it tough to sell even though it was very minor damage.
I don’t plan to sell my 996, but wouldn’t want a blemish on the Carfax!
I'm very conscious of my surroundings and try to never be driving in anyone's blind spot. If someone tailgates me, I move out of the way. In this case, I was in the right lane and the truck passed me in the middle lane. He wanted to exit and merged into me. There was a van behind me and I guess he thought he only needed to clear that vehicle. There was nothing I could do in this case. This is the fifth time my 996 has been hit. Three times while parked, once I hit a deck chair that fell off a camper, and this latest one. Maybe it's jinxed. I've been driving for 48 years and this is the only car I've owned that ever needed to go to a body shop.
Wed., I almost got backed over by a lifted F250, sun was in his mirror and he did not see me. Thank goodness for the horn as I quickly put in in reverse to get out of the way but I hit 1st and jumped closer...Talk about a heart attack moment!
I have state farm too, no car claims but other stuff and they were good.
Texting and driving is an epidemic here in CA they should fine the crap out of drivers doing it...
Depending on how much you drive your car, it may be worthing going with someone like Hagerty. That is what I do. I use mine mostly for the track, but do drive it some on the street. The policy I have covers it for 5000 miles a year. Also covers it on a trailer, or in the paddock. I have agreed value of 20,000. I also have my 74 Beetle Convertible on the same policy valued at 10K. Total, I pay $583 a year.
You can adjust your mileage and values, so your results may be different.
IMS, now people worried about their 996 being totaled?
Let me guess whats next....996 owners worrying their 996 will join #metoo movement & possible sexual assault suit will follow??
...Yes your Honor, owner opened me up and stuck his new IMS in my engine.
Seems like the jacked up pickups have problems seeing our cars and not just in the mirrors. I believe our cars are so low they look over the top of us. A couple of years ago while driving downtown on a one way street I was mid-intersection and some idiot in a jacked up four wheeler pulled right out in front of me as he turned the same direction I was going. That was the day I discovered just exactly how good 996 brakes really are. I actually had no time to change lanes. It was that close! I like the big "desert flag" idea.
Nah. My biggest worry, aside from the Mack Truck that hit me, is the potential for meteorite damage due to the depletion of the Ozone Layer. Although I do hope my car keeps mum about that drunken tail pipe incident. Shhh.
Give Hagerty a call, in my case they were cheaper that State Farm for an agreed value policy with no deductible. I have no affiliation or obligation to Hagerty, just figure I share my experience.
I just got paid off for my 2001 996 with 108,000 miles a couple weeks ago. After all said and done and my $750 deductible taken out I received $18,200. The buyback was around $7,500. I paid $16,000 for it almost 3 yrs ago with 82,000 miles on it. I was happy.
I received an 18-page market valuation report on how they determined the value. Basically, it was just an average of what similar ones are going for in my area subtracting or adding for features/miles.
Today I had a PPI done on a 07 997 S so tomorrow I'm going to negotiate a little more with the dealer. If all goes well then I'll be a happy 911 owner again. You don't realize how much you miss or appreciate one of these cars until its gone.
It's been 3 weeks since my car got hit by little pea stones bouncing out of a dump truck on the interstate.
I called Allstate agent about my car and suggested that I call the gravel company after I get an estimate.
$2967 @ Porsche dealer
Allstate it will go under comprehensive not collision . Allstate will go after gravel company insurance and my deductible.
But I am worried about the carfax history.
Waiting on response from owner of the gravel company .
My wife was rear ended while sitting at a red light last Friday; in her 2015 Touareg TDI. The other driver was checking his phone. It is crazy dangerous out there with all the phone use. Initial estimate is just over $4,000. Liberty Mutual is my carrier and the offending driver Progressive. Both companies were in contact with us the same day and very helpful. Progressive informed me the offending driver only had $10,000 coverage so good thing the damage was not greater and my wife was not hurt.
Before having your stone chips repainted take pictures of the damage so a future buyer will know the repaint was not accident damage. This has helped me sell a valuable car in the past.
I recently had my E46 M3 totaled out under State Farm. I was very happy with their market valuation/payout and was even able to get them to add on some $$ because I had recently purchased new rear tires.
How the pay out on a total loss is calculated is going to be specific to state and policy terms and will definitely vary state to state. You will want to call State Farm directly and ask them how your policy is written.
On a standard Massachusetts auto policy Actual Cash Value is used to calculate a total loss pay out. I typically use NADA values to negotiate with the insurance carrier. Usually there is a little wiggle room in their first offer so definitely get data to counter offer. I suspect it will be tougher for the consumer to negotiate with direct insurance writers (GEICO, Progressive etc..) as opposed to working through an insurance agent who advocates on your behalf.
I have my two Porsches insured with Haggerty, did that a few years ago vs. keeping them with USAA. Have $25K agreed upon value with the 996 and 15K agreed upon value with the 951. The premium was about the same and there is no restrictions on driving them. I think I pay about $900 / year for both cars.
Progressive paid out? That is surprising. I got t-boned by one of their policy holders a few years ago. Lady pulled out of a Steak and Shake and right into the side of my DD. Progressive said it wasn't her fault - which is crazy. Anyway Allstate paid for the repairs to my vehicle and then went after the other driver. She ended up declaring bankruptcy. I live in MO and to this day I do not know how Progessive could say it she was not at fault since she was pulling into traffic.
Hagerty.
I have agreed policies rated at 45k for my 996 turbo and 30k for my 99 Boxster with 3.4 swap. My policies have no mileage limit and cost me about two hundred dollars more a year than my old traditional policy.
I hope I never have to use the policy but having piece of mind that if something bad happens I won't get screwed is so worth it.
