As I recall, he installed a LS-2 instead of a LS-3, which resulted in having to add an additional gauge or two to the steering column.

In case you were wondering, Hoovie want's $10K for his LS Swapped roller.

So...a 1999 with 248,000+ miles + used a renegade hybrid kit = $10K

I would think it would make better sense to just replace the car or find a donor like 808Bill did with his Hawaiian roller.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It might be worth $10K if you want an LS swapped 996.
The car, and the Renegade swap kit is probably worth that.
At least you might have a rebuildable LS, or an LS core.
I imagine someone will pay $10K for it.
I wonder what Tavarish paid for the crispy Ferrari.
As I recall, he installed a LS-2 instead of a LS-3, which resulted in having to add an additional gauge or two to the steering column. I would plan on scrapping the LS-2 and installing a new crate motor. It's probably worth 10k, but that's all the money in my opinion.
This Hoovie character's 996 Frankenstein is a perfect example of turning a sow's ear into barbecue. I have a associate that owns a nice 1999 Carrera Coupe with 142K miles that is willing to sell it for $15,000. It's not perfect, but far better all around than Hoovie's monstrosity. I would think it would make better sense to just replace the car or find a donor like 808Bill did with his Hawaiian roller. But I presume that would not make for a popular YouTube channel then.
So...a 1999 with 248,000+ miles + used a renegade hybrid kit = $10K
Keeping in mind that, since he bought it for $9,500.00 (with a running engine) he has done little more than put the cheapest LS he could find into it, and abuse it.
If my memory serves me well, he has almost $30,000 in the car when you had the costs of the LS motor, plus whatever he gave the "wizard" to install it.
Yeah, I forgot that it had a ton of miles on it.
He did add a ducktail, but he didn't paint it.
There are certainly better candidates for an LS swap.
I think I'll keep a flat six in my 996.
I would never swap an LS for relaibility.
IMHO the only reasons to LS swap are for cheap HP and so you can use cheaper engine parts.
The V8 sound is nice, but I think my flat six with Fabspeed exhaust sounds even better!
Not sure how his mechanic "The Magician" or something like that probably cut out all the unnecessary things in the back of the car to shoehorn the LS in the car. If so, going back to a flatsix will be difficult and expensive plus the cost of the engine. I would not be interested in that car for half the amount. My opinion, only. Someone will buy it if for nothing else a somewhat attractive boat anchor.
I was joking about swapping in a 911 engine. I followed his video's and honestly, they made a lot of
alterations
to get that engine to fit. I think he's being optimistic with his price - the car wasn't exactly pristine to start and it wasn't a seamless conversion. I wish him the best....but....
I actually enjoy watching him.
I've learned a LOT from him.
1) Never buy an old Range Rover.
2) Never own a Ferrari without a working fire extinguisher system. An automatic one is best!
3) Never try to drive a Toyota Landcruiser(or Lexus version) under deep water with a snorkel. You might drown yourself!
4) Never think that LS swapping your 996 is going to be the cheap and easy route.
5) Never ask a mechanic to sing Amazing Grace!!!
This is so funny! Especially #5. It seems everything he touches turns to s**t. However, I don't think he cares anymore. He's making money and lots of it being the village idiot of the car world. I must admit he is quite entertaining. I just wish he'd get off the victim band wagon.
He has 40+ cars. Bought an $80k Rolls Royce and Testarossa. Trades cars like they are hockey cards. Whatever he does, he's doing pretty well for himself. I do NOT believe he is an idiot in any way, shape or form.
He also has a LOT of debt.
He has talked about the payments.
A lot of debt can come crashing down on you when times get tough...or Youtube changes their payment policy.
All my cars are paid for, so if times get tough I don't have to sell them because I can't afford them.
I'm just saying, he's not a fool. That may be the persona he plays, but certainly not a fool.
That being said, I liked the idea of the LS motor, but it didn't seem like it was installed the way it should. But then I know nothing.
he took the ls swap to the limits and found the weak points...motor is backwards so that gives people a chance to improve on it.. get an oil pan made for the swap with windage in the rear
I really enjoyed the detail he showed in doing the Renegade mod, for the sole purpose of emphatically demonstrating why I'd never want to do it. I have no issues with originality or drivetrain swaps. But unless you are a true DIY craftsmans, the level of work and money spent into an LS swap just doesn't seem justifiable.
For someone looking for an LS powered 996, this does not seem to be a bad deal considering how much this sort of job costs. The heavy lifting has been done and at this point it looks like the next owner really just needs a new LS to drop in and tune it properly.
I considered making him an offer just so could use the renegade parts and part out the rest, but i feared it was all hacked together. I just dont trust people that put these things together quickly to abuse and have no interest in keeping the car long term. It screams of doing the minimum to complete a task.
