Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm considering getting a PPI on a 1999 996 cab in Concord, CA. The dealer has agreed to take it to a nearby specialist for a PPI. Any recommendations? How much am I looking at spending for one? Thanks in advance.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the tip. Pacific Power Motorsports never returned my call or email. I'm guessing they don't do inspections.

POST 4Original post

They're usually really busy, I would try calling a few times preferably before noon.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They did get back to me. I may have a PPI done early next week. The cost is $375. The shop told me that "Regarding The IMS Bearing, We Would Not Be Able To See The Bearing Without Transaxle Removal But We Can Check The Camshaft Deviation Using The OBD2 Information." Also, "We Don’t Take The Sump Plate Off But Can Remove The Existing Engine Oil Filter And Check It For Metallic Debris, For The Additional Cost Of $26.12 For The Oil Filter It Is Worth Doing." Is there anything other than the %^$# IMS that I should make certain they check?

POST 6Original post

If they can scope the cylinders it would be good, however it's quite an invasive procedure and to get them all properly I believe you have to pull the sump off and go from underneath, as well as thru the sparkplug holes. Have them check crankcase pressure which can show a failing AOS. Perhaps pull the serpentine belt and check for water pump play, worn bearings can lead to impeller breakup and plastic particles jamming in the head, leading to hotspots. Even with a PPI you take a risk with these cars, hence their bargain price considering what value you get in buying one. Good luck
