I figured out how to remove the stainless exhaust tips without removing the clamps (which is a pain) so that I could use my buffing wheel to really get a good shine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I figured out how to remove the stainless exhaust tips without removing the clamps (which is a pain) so that I could use my buffing wheel to really get a good shine. First I removed the vertical 17mm nut and then gently tapped the bolt up. Then the tip slides off of the pipe. This is adjustable and has a slot which allows you to extend the tip in or out. Thank you for the write-up, before and after pics. Mine look worse than yours and are in need of some TLC.

Mine also. Thanks to OP for the tips and photos.

POST 7Original post

Very good job! I hate dirty exhaust tips. Just says to me if you are ignoring this little detail, then what else are you ignoring?

POST 8Original post

Doesn’t everyone polish the tips? “White Diamond” metal polish. I use it on the headers of my Triumph Thruxton with great results. I have the flared chrome tips when freshly polished will shine like the sun.

POST 9Original post

Agree. And "thank you" Mods for cleaning up on aisle 996.

Noxon is the bomb, if it is still made. A discovery from my pinball machine work. Just don't breathe the fumes.
