Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I changed my cam chains and tensioner pads after I got a Fault code (1325/1341 iirc) and CEL.

I was told 8% was limit by my repair shop and showed ~6% when i had it fixed...maybe i got lucky things didnt go south well before the repair!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

After changing everything out I think the deviations are still over 2 degrees on both banks (sorry I don't remember the exact #'s) but all codes and CEL are gone...

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just connected my Durametric to my 99 C4 to take a look at my camshaft deviation values. My understanding is a value of 0 +/- 6 is within the acceptable range. Can anyone confirm this? My values are -3.23 and -4.30 @ 750 RPM Thanks for the help.

Thank you.

POST 4Original post

***Im not sure my previous post was published or not - I made a mistaken analysis anyway... Regarding the quoted numbers: How certain are the numbers produced by non-Porsche (nom-dealer) computers? I have often wondered. Thank you. Jerry

The numbers reported by the Durametric software should be the same values read from the DME/cam sensor.

+/- 6 degrees (not %) is the specified limit on deviation. 0 degrees being "perfect", albeit rare even on a recently "rebuilt/refreshed" motor. -3.23, & -4.3 are well within spec. Find another shop...

We consider anything over a 4 needing replacement of the variocam wear pads on a 5 chain engine. Tony Callas (PCA Technical Committee) also has the same recommendation.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I guess it may be time to start thinking about pulling the motor out.

POST 10Original post

I certainly wouldn't argue your recommendation. My recommendation to find another shop was based on the fact that they said +/- 8 was the limit... I changed my cam chains and tensioner pads after I got a Fault code (1325/1341 iirc) and CEL. I think the deviations were over 8 on both sides. After changing everything out I think the deviations are still over 2 degrees on both banks (sorry I don't remember the exact #'s) but all codes and CEL are gone...
