Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings. Per my previous posts, had my check engine light come on twice this weekend for P1128 & P1130. Going to soon change the plugs but question for you all: the coils are right there on the plugs. The car only has 26k miles on it, but the coils are 18/19 years old. Is it worth dropping about $300 on all new coils as well, or would that be foolish, given such low miles? (Thats $300 for Beru coils. More like $500 for Porsche coils). Same question for MAF. Thanks in advance for your replies. -Jim

POST 2Original post

Install new spark plugs & replace any coils that are damaged. (Usually cracks or torn spark plug boot) Clear the codes & drive. If the codes return install new Bosch MAF & clear codes. Be careful removing spark plugs I assume they are originals, Porsche says change every 5 years to minimize seizing in the head, make sure engine is cold when removing.

POST 3Original post

I would replace all of the coils at the same time even if they look fine. As you said, they are 18 years old and you'll see why I say do them while you're changing the plugs once you get in there and see what it takes. Replace the spark plug tubes and o-rings as well. Make sure to tug on the coil wires when you're done to make sure they're on firmly. They click in but can look like they're in correctly when they're not. It's not fun buttoning everything up only to have to go back in afterwards. Ask me how I know. I wouldn't change the MAF unless you're getting codes from it after the plugs are done. And then I would try to clean it carefully with MAF cleaner first. I bought my plugs and coils for my MY2000 from Warehouse33 and they were very reasonable. Use coupon code Rennlist for a 10% discount.

POST 4Original post

I was about to suggest Warehouse33 but Wyovino beat me to it. The price has increased slightly, but still you should be able to get 6 Beru coils for just $208 from them with the discount code. They also offer free shipping if you're not in a hurry.

POST 5Original post

Thank you wyovino and TexSquirrel for mentioning Warehouse 33, and thank your for your business! -Jason
