Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

i ran through the steps for the adaptation sequence for the DME but it has not had an effect.
Leading evidence: 'Run through the steps' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The easiest and cheapest thing to try is to clean the MAF with MAF cleaner and go from there.
Disconnect batery or can i simply turn the ignition

So for clarity, do I need to disconnect the batery or can I simply turn the ignition on for a minute?

I did this twice yesterday with no effect WITHOUT disconnecting the battery.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With the weather turning cool as autumn decends upon us my 996 has started idling poorly, occasionally stalling, and occasionally backfiring. It's a 2001 tiptronic and as I lift my foot off the gas the engine can be heard to stall while coasting before applying the brakes to stop. When I press the accelerator the engine stumbles and then catches and goes or sometimes stalls. Under partial through wide open throttle she pulls nicely and shows no signs of anny issues. There is no check engine light and the bulb is fine. i ran through the steps for the adaptation sequence for the DME but it has not had an effect. I have also just put a full tank of fuel from a different gas station in the car. Does anyone have any ideas?
This is particularly troublesome when turning across traffic and there is no power. I am worried it will stall across live lanes of traffic.
Will the DME have stored code even with no CEL illuminated? My indy is closed this week or I would have it in there ASAP!
I would recommend two cans of Seafoam with a 1/4 tank of gas. Run it down to empty, then refill with top tier gasoline from Shell or Chevron. If the problem still persists, then you may need to closely examine the MAF and coil packs. Checking the car with a scanner will help identify the problem. Do you have a Durametric?
I don't have a scanner and the engine is really fresh. Seafoam isn't needed for sure. I was suspecting the coil pcks but why would they all go at once? Recent rain and morning dew if the cases are cracked? My suspicion is the MAF but I am new to this model line and I am looking for a BTDT ideally
Cleaning and resetting the throttle body is a good idea.
Running rough after it rains often points to a cracked coil though you generally would get a misfire code and check engine light. The easiest and cheapest thing to try is to clean the MAF with MAF cleaner and go from there.
So for clarity, do I need to disconnect the batery or can I simply turn the ignition on for a minute? I did this twice yesterday with no effect WITHOUT disconnecting the battery.
Also, does the MAF need to be removed for cleaning?
