I also took both before I installed new motor mounts, as you can see from the sagging exhaust tips.

I have stock lights if you want them, but they both have small cracks in the top center that run about 1 inch perpendicular to the edge
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I found this crack in my tail light when I went out to the car yesterday. The crack is big enough to notice, but not so big that I want to spend almost $600 on a new one. Ebay comes up empty for the "early" part number (996.631.495.00), will the later part number (996.631.415.00) fit? In any case, let me know if anyone has a decent used one laying around.
Thanks
Yeah, but looking up the part number 996.631.495.00 (from the catalog on the Porsche site), I can't find any used at all. I am hoping the part number was superseded. I've got a member here who offered one, but it's a 2002. Does anyone know whether a 2002 tail light will fit a 2000? It looks exactly the same.
Thanks again.
If you check this out, they sell a LED pair of tail lamps for $479.95. Click on the 99663149500 part number and scroll to the bottom. Says plug and play. Might be a good upgrade.

Suncoast has a replacement tail lamp for $455..still expensive I know but cheapest price I've found so far.

Yeah, it's a little confusing. I have a Carrera 2. The tail light for the Carrera is listed for 99 and up, while the 02 and up is for the 4S. Pelican lists their tail light as fitting 99 -05 (which must exclude the 4s?).
I am leaning towards the 2002 that someone messaged me about fitting my 2000. I'll let everyone know.
I have one that you can have if you pay shipping...the only problem is one of the corners broke off about the 1/2 inch and epoxied back on....you cant really tell. If you can wait, I will get back home on the 19th and take a picture.
There are differences in the tail lamps. Your car appears to be narrow body, as opposed to C4S or turbo. The wide body lights will not fit. The are physically wider. The 98/99 lights are amber on top, as opposed to clear. The wide body tail lights are more prone to cracks, but the narrow body tail lights will crack too. My 3/98 build came with the amber lights (narrow body, of course) and they both had cracks, one of which allowed moisture into the light housing. I replaced them with a set of $300 LED tail lights and am very happy with them. I did have to swap some of the LEDs/bulbs around to illuminate the different sections the way I wanted. I attached a pic of the old lights (that were "smoked" with a clearcoat containing some black pigment) and a pic of the new lights on my 911 (parked next to my old Mustang GT).
Thanks man, good info. I was wondering about the amber lights, I see these pop up in my searches. If I'm understanding correctly, the 99- 05 lights, as long as they're not c4s or turbo will fit. That's where I think I am at, and gives me a lot of options. I like the LED, but haven't seen them in "live" yet. If I can get a stock one, I'm going to go with that. Moisture is my big concern, although the crack is small now it probably won't stay that way.
Correct. Any narrow body tail light will fit your car. those are the LEDs installed in my 996 parked next to the Mustang. I have had them installed for over a year. No issues with them. Not a great pic though. It's the best pic of the tail lights I currently have on my phone.
Note that except for the turbo, almost all 2005 911s are 997s.
Narrow and wide body lights are not interchangeable because of the mounting differences.
Narrow body light mounts wrap around and screws go into the mounting frame "horizontally" from the engine side. Turbo and C4 mounts just lay on the top of the frame and screws go in straight towards the engine bay.
Mike, I just had pictures taken of my extra taillight... it looks pretty good even with the repaired corner (see below) however, unfortunately it looks like its the wrong side. Sorry about that, I remembered incorrectly on which side it was on.
As you can see it is passenger side....sorry about that. I would urge you to look at Norspec Dismantling....I am sure they have the taillight you need and are easy to work with

i can take a pic if you’re interested
Thanks! I think Im looking for non cracked ones for now. If I cant find them at a reasonable price, Im going to live with it until I cant.
I appreciate the offer!
Mike, long time lurker on this forum just joined hence no posts. I have a left taillight Valeo part#996.631.415.00 no cracks some scuffing from a 03 Carrera 4 that I bought as a parts car ,if you are interested
Bumping this up top - even a cracked one would be better than what I have. I prefer to have something that isn't missing chunks - but we can still talk about it (Slakker)... lol
