Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I double checked the plastic piece that goes between the hydraulic ram and the groove on the driver side (there isn't one on the passenger), and it looks to be in place properly.
Leading evidence: 'Check plastic piece' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check plastic piece' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I disconnected the power, and removed #2 (to which #4 I attached to facilitate hose removal and fluid refill.

I had mine replaced by the dealer and the part was $1000.

I recently had my hydraulic rams serviced (shout out to Craig Kunins for great work!), but upon reassembly and operation I ran into an issue.

Suggestion
At some point, won't you need to run the convertible top synchronization function via the PIWIS software?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently had my hydraulic rams serviced (shout out to Craig Kunins for great work!), but upon reassembly and operation I ran into an issue. After everything was back together, I raised the top and heard a loud "thunk" from the rear drivers side. Closing and reopening repeated the sound. I put the unit back in service mode and started looking around. There are two "hooks", one each on the driver and passenger side of the car. They appear to be the first things to move when open and the last part to move when closing. I can't see, because it is closed, but I think they hold the clam shell down. Anyway, I noticed they are out of sync, and since the driver side was making the noise, I looked at that hook first. I unclipped the arm that controls the hook position, and lined up the hook as best I could with the passenger side, but then the lower gold-colored arm would no longer reach. That arm isn't easily moved (I didnt force it). So I appear to be stuck.

Anyone have luck getting these hooks in sync?
driver side. I could this closer to correct/sync position, but not exact and not enough to fix it.
passenger side
Thank you, yes, it appears to be working fine in its groove. After some closer inspection just now, I can see that the piece that the gold rod is attached to (which in turn moves the hook/latch), isn't moving the same distance as its counterpart on the passenger side. I *think' this is part is moved by a cable? Reading some other threads, I think thats what I gather. I'm done for a few days, so I'll circle back.
Certainly if anymore ideas are out there I'm game, but next I guess I'll either just take it o my indy, or try and suss out that cable issue.
At some point, won't you need to run the convertible top synchronization function via the PIWIS software? Lots of info here on Rennlist for how to get the download for free and then the cable for cheap. You provide the old laptop.
If your L/R hooks are out of synch, then the Transmission part of the top drive is bad. It is a single motor with two ends, part number 4. Might need to get a used one...
Can I ask what leads you to that conclusion. Top worked perfectly fine before the rams were removed. One had a small leak, but I got both updated. The top worked perfectly before removal.
If you have to recalibrate/syncronize the top, there are a couple of notes here that might save you some aggravation:

Fair point, and yes, I did. I disconnected the power, and removed #2 (to which #4 I attached to facilitate hose removal and fluid refill. It didnt move more than a few inches, but I get your point. Perhaps that damaged it?
I have had to do this synchronization on a Ferrari, not on a Porsche so this suggestion may not apply. But it is worth looking into before you spring for a big ticket item 4.
The cables are obviously attached to the ends of the motor with some kind of a clip/retainer. If you can figure out how to remove the clip and remove the cable, you will then be able to turn the cable and synch the two hooks to the same positions (only one cable needs to be removed) and then reinsert the cable into the motor. And the perform a calibration to get the top back to operation.
It's a known failure point for the Cabriolet. The cost of the motor/cable assembly is now off the charts from where it was five years ago. I had mine replaced by the dealer and the part was $1000. Now its $3000!!!
996-561-021-03 part number. Tariffs? No idea.
So I took it to my indy (Don wise, Campbell, CA) and his team established that one of the rods was bent (no idea how). They fixed for two hours of labor and I'm all done. I really don't understand how this happened, but it did. Just glad it wasn't something more serious.
