Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
I backprobed the black/white wire and confirmed it was the correct wire.
Leading evidence: 'correct wire' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'correct wire' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check serpentine belt idler pulleys' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Reported cause
I found a black/green wire and backprobed it to confirm it was the turnsignal.

Since there was little space to use butt splices, I used an IDC wire connector, which I really hate using.

I'm going to be changing my oil, checking my serpentine belt idler pulleys, running a mic wire, and doing that mod.

On my 997.1 I had the dealer use the PIWIS to program this - issues were it cost an hour of labor plus when you change side markers to turn signals they no longer function as side markers.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On my 997.1 I had the dealer use the PIWIS to program this - issues were it cost an hour of labor plus when you change side markers to turn signals they no longer function as side markers. I believe you can do this with a Durametric Pro also. Don't know if it can be done on 996 though.
Thanks for the reminder that I need to do this to my 996.
It's rainy here this week and we're in for a rainy weekend.
That sounds like the perfect little job for this Saturday morning.
I'm going to be changing my oil, checking my serpentine belt idler pulleys, running a mic wire, and doing that mod. I'll be doing the oil change on my neighbors lift, then the rest under a car port. You're welcome to come down and we'll do the mod together on both our cars, I have room for another car.
I think I'll just do it at home in the air conditioned garage.
I'll come down your way one Saturday when the weather will be nicer.
If it is as rainy as they're predicting, it won't be a very fun drive.
Did you do the mod this last weekend?
I did it on Sunday and it was pretty easy.
My 996.2 wiring was different than the DIY instructions.
On the left, the black/white wire was not in pin 7.
It was in pin 4.
I backprobed the black/white wire and confirmed it was the correct wire.
On the right, I didn’t have the connector in the DIY instructions.
My connector went to a lighting controller.
I assume mine is different because I have Xenon lights.
I found a black/green wire and backprobed it to confirm it was the turnsignal.
Since there was little space to use butt splices, I used an IDC wire connector, which I really hate using.
But since it doesn’t carry much current, I’m sure it will be ok.
It's interesting how it works. With the headlights off, the side marker and turn signal blink in sync. With the lights on, they alternate. (Could be the opposite).
