Started the car - checked all systems, and went out for my next session and continued through the weekend flawlessly.

I went from a 3.4 to a 3.8 motor that REALLY changed power and torque.

Looking for a decklid that would support a cup wing (In the meantime I may attempt to repair my taco).

The most immediate need to to remove the rear bumper, replace the tail light, and think about whether I want to remove the battle scars and just leave em as reminders.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

The damage to the Taco isn't bad at all and I will definitely get it fixed.
Looking to find a deck lid, rear wing (either cup or SP996), and a left rear tail light.
Ran out of traction, talent, and ideas at the same time this weekend at Sebring.
Shouldn't be an issue... it happens. I'm really not upset at all.
I learned some things this weekend about car setup changes and how to adjust. I just learned a bit too late.
The combo of an LSD (coming from lots of laps with an open diff) and a big lift in HP/torque caught me off guard.
Lesson learned.
I've got a stock decklid. Here is the ebay auction for it. PM me and we can discuss the RENNLIST discount if you are interested. Glad you are okay!

Thank Kris...

I've been wanting to go to a roof height wing on the car for a while - but it was more of a 'want item.' My taco is repairable for sure. Buuuut..... if there were a compelling reason to expedite the journey into big-wing-land... I would.

Bummer....that happened to me as well...that was when I sourced a 996.2 rear bumper which looks real nice with 996.1 aero rockers...like you I looked at it as an opportunity
I had the wing which was slightly chipped fixed cause I love the taco on a 996.
Turn 10. It was very much drivers error on my part - but there were other factors at play - all, ultimately, driver error - but I have a great excuse none the less... allow me....
First, I've got a few laps down at Sebring - so this isn't an inexperience thing.
Some may remember - I did an engine transplant and total car overhaul. I went from a 3.4 to a 3.8 motor that REALLY changed power and torque. I added a LSD, and changed everything out to solid end suspension as well as moving from the X74 suspension to Ohlins. So basically changed EVERYTHING in the car. That was at the beginning of this year. February of 2018 was scheduled to be the first test of the new setup - engine, LSD, suspension, setup... long story short - there was a significant delay in getting everything done.
In late July we were scheduled to run a local track here for testing - a place called The Firm. Needless to say - we got there and it was pretty much a total washout. That was supposed to be the first 'on track' test. I had just gotten through the break in period (500 miles of light street driving).
Sebring was next. First session, 2nd lap. The car was handling brilliantly - literally point and shoot. Everything I asked it to do - it did. I did, however, notice that there was a certain amount of 'snappyness' to it. In my brain I continued to tell myself to take it easy. Hindsight is always 20/20. The combination of the added power of the motor and the ability to put that power down MUCH earlier due to the addition of the LSD is really what 'happened.'
I took my typical line, used my typical turn in, braking zone... knicked the curbing with right side of the car (as is typical). I got on the gas at the typical time and the typical amount. Unfortunately, 'typical' was better suited for an open diff and less power and torque. I got on the gas when the car was still unsettled and a) wasn't used to it hooking up immediately and b) wasn't used to the power. The back stepped out - I unwound the wheel (still in the gas to get traction) - did a full rotation, but unfortunately was already wheels off. With no traction and out of ideas, I watched the tire wall through the rear view mirror and waited for the 'big stop at the end.' Watched the blade of the taco wing fly off when I hit.
Emergency crews came up to the window and asked if I could restart the car. I told them that with a rear impact - I'd rather wait until we got back to the paddock. Got the car back under flat tow - saw that there was very little damage (rear light, wing blade, small crack on the decklid, and dented rear bumper cover. No fluids, and nothing moved. Started the car - checked all systems, and went out for my next session and continued through the weekend flawlessly. The car performed as expected....
So - lesson learned. When you have (for all intents and purposes) a brand new car after taking nearly 9 months off of driving- slow down and learn it. The power was addictive - the handling was so precise. The LSD is a HUGE difference and HUGE adjustment. I got too much power down too early. That's it. Had I done the same with the 3.4 and open diff - we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Blue Chip thanks for sharing. I'm in jax so I've been out to FIRM many times and yes, it is a pretty tame track compared to Sebring. Glad it sounds like the damage was pretty minor.
Waiting to hear back from a forum member about the tail light (he has one that's operable but cracked) that I could use. Also have calls and emails into Ed at Demonspeed working through some details on a wing, tail base, and uprights...
Go big or go home.
Saw this 996 at Sebring a during the PBOC event this month. Deamonspeed risers and a modified Getty blade.. Would look mighty fine on your silver bullet
