Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I've been talking about doing this project for over a full year and finally started it. I'm doing a full 996 track and SEMA 2016 build. The motor will be receiving a custom 1off turbo build and the body is also a custom 1off setup. I'm using generic RSR 996 front flares that I modified to fit the OEM fenders and using AIR turbo rear flares that I'll be modifying to fit the Carrera. I cut up the front flares today, will be working on glassing the rears next weekend.

POST 2Original post

Subscribed! Should be interesting to see the final product

POST 4Original post

Finally someone is doing this! Haters are going to have a field day but what matters in the end is the vision YOU have for your creation! Following!

POST 5Original post

I love the fact that you are doing things to the next level and without trying to sound like a d!ck, what will be some of the standout/unique attributes of this car besides a turbo and widebody, which have already been done a few times before?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the great input and the anticipation. As far as the questions you have asked I am making a custom chassis mount rear wing setup (that I hope to mass produce and make an affordable option for all track enthusiasts). Secondly, I'm planning on making a custom rear diffuser, but I am looking for a trashed up 996 rear bumper that I can use as a mock up. Most importantly, I just purchased a spare hood. Going to purchase a 996 GT3 oem third radiator and create a radiator/downforce vent on the front of the hood like that of the Ford GT40, Flying Lizard R8, etc. Working on some renderings.

POST 9Original post

This is going to be neat to watch progression. Good Luck with everything!

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 13086180

1st one sounds interesting 2nd one has been done a couple times at least so nothing new there. 3rd doesn't make too much sense to me. The OEM third radiator is really meant to be a supplemental radiator and cup car bumpers already have vents at the top of the bumper to relieve pressure and reduce lift. One member used a bigger radiator to make it as a primary radiator and did what you are thinking of. Once again, just trying to provide some constructive criticism sooner, rather than have everyone at Sema think the same things later. BTW, if you need a thrashed OEM rear MK2 bumper, contact me and it's yours for shipping cost and packing only. image_60.jpg image_61.jpg image_61.jpg

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13087928

Awesome, and don't worry. I'm all about the constructive criticism to build this car. The rear diffuser has definitely been done, just trying to come up with my own flare of a design to work on the Porsche. The third radiator I'm trying to design as the NSX's were. I don't have vents on the front bumper and I personally hate how they look. It's meant for airflow for the radiator, the primary purpose of what I am trying to build is for downforce so that the front of the car is loaded before entering into the apex and I don't have to trail brake in. Shooting for a rear diffuser like this Hood design and airflow. (watch the youtube video at the 21second mark) Ford GT in the A2 Wind Tunnel - YouTube

POST 13Original post

It's about damn time you started work on this thing. Does this mean you won't have time for motorcyle antics with me this summer?

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 13088360

IMO, if it's a different design or looks that you want, then fine, but if you want max efficiency, I think putting slots on the top of the bumper is the proven way to go and effective enough where anything more could just have diminishing returns. If the Ford GT/NSX design was more effective on the 911, Porsche would've already done it for their various racing series they're involved with. One thing I can think of is that you will have to cut through the tub for the design you want, sacrificing the structural integrity. I think Porsche knew this and didn't want to go this route possibly. PORSCHE IN A2 WIND TUNNEL - YouTube Around 45s mark As for front downforce in conjunction to minimizing lift, do you plan on putting canards on the front bumper? Another thing you can do is also vent the tops of the front fenders like the new 991 gt3's. I know Dodge Viper ACR's are also adopting that technique for a somewhat manufacturer produced street car.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13088452

Ha, right! I think I can still manage that. Plus, I'm aiming to have the WB build done by end of May at the latest as I need to have it prepped for RWB Seattle #3 build. But I did post it up the 748 for sale. Need to get the boat done and sell it too after I enjoy it for a couple of weeks lol

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13088547

I wish that video showed more analysis of the front bumper vents. The front bumper vents seem like more of way to flow the air through the auxiliary radiator while creating little drag. I also want to specifiy I do not have any engineering education in aero dynamics, just using what I know as of right now. But I may have to contact an old friend and see if I can get into their wind tunnel after hours for a couple of R&D things.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 13088651

I think you maybe intermixing drag and lift. You should also look into low and high pressure areas of the car so you're not just adding unnecessary spatula's.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking a ladle before a spatula. Replace the mirrors with it

Hoping to work on the rears today. First order of business will be widening the front bumper appropriately for the front flares. Pictures to follow.

POST 21Original post

Glad I was able to catch this build at the beginning stages. Sounds stupid but you you have a ig with build progress as well?

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13105225

I do have an IG. It's JohnLee425 . I wasn't able to get to the bumper today, power went out due to high winds, so the car will sit for another week and wait while I head out of town for work.

POST 23Original post

Looks like an awesome project. Man I wish you would find such a project on the 997 forum.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Didn't have time this past weekend to work on the car especially with the power being out. Did a quick crappy photoshop render using Ace's 996 RSR build. This is the ultimate goal for the body of the car with the flares. Yes I do have a wing but did not render it in. I'm all about the function for this car.

POST 25Original post

Hood venting has been done by Porsche Motorsport, like in this RSR:

POST 26Original post

Rendering looks great, these cars pull off the WB so well. Good luck, looking forward for updates.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 13115696

Yup, that hood exit was a change made for the the 997.2 RSR. And the new 991 GT3R actually entirely omits the side radiators in favor of a single center radiator that exits out the top of the hood:

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HA! So hood venting is definitely going to happen now. Thanks for all the input guys!

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a quick little update. Full features of the car will be soon posted but I ended up finishing the project and also doing an LS1 swap as rod bearing #4 failed. I entered SEMA Battle of the Builers 2017 with the car, came in top 10 for Young Guns and top 40 for overall. Instagram: @geekysbuilds @travelwithJohn

POST 32Original post

Actually saw your car there in Nov. Followed your build too as im eventually gonna do an ls swap too. Some more details would be good to see.

POST 33Original post

I love the widebody look. Makes the car look 10 times as aggressive. That's a nice looking car.

Thanks guys. De Jeeper, there are a few feature articles coming out shortly for the car including one potentially with a major Porsche publication so I will hold off on sharing the full build until the features are published. The rears are 19x13's. But for sponsors involved and the components used: EPR International (Carbon Decklid) Estilon/Toyo Tires (Toyo R888R's) Phantasy Kolors (Paint) Function First Performance (shifter riser + transmissions inserts) RenownUSA (Steering Wheel) Wavetrac (Differential) Savini Wheels (Wheels) Sparta Evolution (SEMA Location Sponsor) Built LS1 with ported heads and Texas Speedcam MS4 utilizing the Renegade Swap kit But here are some pics of the car.
