Have not posted in years but this thread seems fitting for my rattle story...bought a lightly optioned 2000 c2 over 7 yrs ago for $13k with an ad saying engine replaced by dealer >40k miles prior...PO was asking for $14k but agreed for negotiated price due to rattle from the back of the car when opening throttle.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I have been frustrated in my 2,000 miles of ownership trying to track down a buzz and rattle from the rear end. Replaced a bad swap bar link but still some noise persisted. Then today I pulled the air filter box to replace my engine mounts and found this gigantic wrench stuck underneath the air box. Holy cow. How long has that been there??

POST 4Original post

Wait, is this one of those "look at my cool t-shirt" threads when what we're REALLY supposed to look at are the *****? But the ***** in this case are a wrench? Dammit.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 14652418

Was it the source of the rattle?

POST 6Original post

My rear folding seats were loose. I tightened them.

You had me at *****.

POST 8Original post

A buddy of mine had a good one. He is a tech at Ford and had a customer keep bringing back a new car for a rattle in the door area. Nothing seemed loose and he couldn't find a rattle. Finally he disassembled the door and found a bag in the bottom of the door filled with rocks and a note that said 'how long did it take you ******** to find this?'. It came from the factory that way,

POST 9Original post

Well that wrench was made in Germany so maybe it's original equipment!

How did you do that? I have various rattles (thanks LA rough streets!), but think some might be due to back seats.

POST 16Original post

Have not posted in years but this thread seems fitting for my rattle story...bought a lightly optioned 2000 c2 over 7 yrs ago for $13k with an ad saying engine replaced by dealer >40k miles prior...PO was asking for $14k but agreed for negotiated price due to rattle from the back of the car when opening throttle. I previously owned a boxster and was familiar with ims issue. I kind of like knew that is was the right muffler making the rattling sound and turned out i was right! I was suspicious about asking price from the PO as he was probably trying to unload the car due to the death rattle. The car has been a solid performer so far.
