Then we installed the SpeedTech x-pipe 200 cell cats to quiten it down and it was amazing !!!

I mean sick like it had a cold lol it just didn't sound like performance, it sounded like a sad poorly running motor.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

ok theirs plenty of threads about exhausts but what about achieving specific sounds? I have fabspeed headers and fabspeed mufflers and stock cats. my car sounds great but its not exactly where I want it to sounds. I like that race car sound, that high rev almost crotch rocket motorcycle sound.
I did a search on exhausts and some of the party poopers just commented that if you want it to sound like a Ferrari than buy a Ferrari motor and put it in... that's just silly... Ferrari red doesn't go with my engine bay color scheme
lol but that aside. I have heard so many different sounds from Porsches and plenty of variations that sound like motorcycles, v8's and typical Porsche motors. just about every car genre out there has people who have changed the sound of there motors.
my fabspeed sound is more throaty and a deeper rumble.
The question is does anyone know how to achieve more of that higher revving and shorter stroke sound from the flat 6? I understand I can get on ebay and spend $6k on some super cup exhaust bla bla muffler but I'm asking if more specifically has anyone played around with piecing together there own set ups. I thought about buying a few different resonators, cherry bombs and mufflers and just playing with them to see what I could achieve. but I'm all for a short cut if someone has already done this lol
oh I'm in Michigan... no emission inspections here.
For what it's worth I'd say you should skip the Milltek exhaust; it gives a deep growly tone, not high-pitched at all. To me it sounds more like an air-cooled 911 than a newer high-revving GT 911. I personally love it as it's totally quiet and livable in everyday driving, but it sounds serious when you put your foot down, and I can clearly hear the engine on track. Just my 2c to help you from going down a path that's not what you want!
Here are some clips where you can compare the sound of the 996 with Milltek to Boxsters that are completely unmuffled.

I have heard the fister. sounds nice but ya I want something a little more high pitched. I've heard a straight piped 911, the style before the 996 down on woodward this summer and it sounded sick... I mean sick like it had a cold lol it just didn't sound like performance, it sounded like a sad poorly running motor. the fisker I've listened to on youtube sounds nice though.
thanks, ya higher pitched is what I'm after. I'm looking on ebay right now at different resonators and such. thinking about buying some and trying it with out cats plus resonators and then again with out mufflers plus resonators.
so you have just headers and cats for the exhaust? am I understanding that correctly? any clips of the sound?
problem with youtube is it can be misleading on sounds which is why I thought I'd ask if anyone has played around with this.
thanks for the input guys.
I'm watching vids of just the muffler delete and they sound pretty good but I don't know if they are keeping the cats or if its straight piped from the headers. does anyone know if the cats offer some decent sound suppression so its not to loud with out the mufflers.
I don't want a fart can on there like the imports lol but I wonder if I can find some different cats that would offer more along the lines of that higher rev sound.
anyone have opinions on cats that are on the market right now?
Fister + 200cell sport cats + headers + IPD plenum + intake resonator delete is what will give you the rasp down low and higher end howl. The full-bodied Carrera wail.

Your mufflers will limit how high a pitch you can achieve, as they create a deeper tone, however, our X-Pipe was designed to raise the pitch and will help get you where you want to be....All our 996 exhaust products are on BF sale now, too (this week). Our 996 X-Pipe is available catted or catless.
I have the miltek and love them. just as kraige said. they are there when you want, and not when you don't. not high pitched. miltek really is suited to the flat six.
No rust but shes only lived in CA/TX/GA so theres never been any salt exposure.
Im not sure on the sound as they came with the car and Ive only had her about 3 years. They are definitely a more bassy type of exhaust though. Ive never had the chance to hear her drive by so I dont know how different the note is compared to inside the cabin.
I have the stock sport exhaust wired to stay on loud all the time, mated to the Fabspeed 200 cell sport cats. Not sure what specific sound you are looking for, but here is what mine sounds like:

https://www.facebook.com/randy.remington.5/videos/823091291115179/Here is a clip of a friend of mines car right after an engine rebuild upgraded a 3.4 punched out to a 3.8. This is on the first start up after engine rebuild. Has equal length headers and muffler by-pass pipes with baffles (CC inserts 3 disc 2 inch) and gutted cats. Sounded pretty good but too loud. Then we installed the SpeedTech x-pipe 200 cell cats to quiten it down and it was amazing !!! High pitch, exotic and very aggressive, but when cruising and driving normal would not get the cops attention. Very motorcycleish !!! I don't have a sound clip of the finished project, but it is the best sounding one I have heard IMHO .
