Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I purchased an entire seat on eBay for $300, and just replaced the entire seat.

I wish I had gone into more detail on the actual removal process and wiring - but I wasn't even sure I was going to finish the video (I started it last year while checking the switches).

Rather than trying to separate the two and install the element (which some others have done) I was able to replace the entire lower foam piece.

I started off by testing the switch, hoping to get lucky - no dice.

I felt like a bit of tool the other day cruising with the top down but using the seat warmers and heater.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My driver's heated seat hasn't worked since I purchased the car last year. When I press the button, the light comes on and immediately goes off. After doing some research it seems most people with this problem come to find it is a break in the heating element. I started off by testing the switch, hoping to get lucky - no dice. So I went ahead and removed the seat and confirmed no continuity on the lower heating element.
The surprise (and good news) was that new seat foam INCLUDES a new heating element. Rather than trying to separate the two and install the element (which some others have done) I was able to replace the entire lower foam piece. All in all it was about $150 for a brand new foam pad + heating element. After putting it all back together its working and quite nice. Looking forward to the cold weather now. It was definitely a bit of a PITA getting the leather off and then re-attaching it, but not terrible if you go slow and take your time.
Hope to post a video soon outlining the troubleshooting process with some tips on getting it all back together.
Cheers
Charlie
Me three! Seeing as I rarely drive the car in the winter, It's never been a priority... That being said, I'm one of those people who like everything to work as it should! Where did you get the lower seat foam ?
** I just looked it up here...
http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=817-05
$116.00 for the heating element alone
Or
http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=817-05
$153.05 for new foam with heating element...
Seeing as the labor is about the same, I'll probably just order the new foam as well...
I felt like a bit of tool the other day cruising with the top down but using the seat warmers and heater. For some reason, reminded me of all people that wear Uggs in Socal.
Wow. Good to know if it goes in my 996. It is stupid expensive on the Cayenne. The element is sewn into the leather ($2200). I purchased an entire seat on eBay for $300, and just replaced the entire seat. Now I have a parts seat!
Here is the link to the video, just uploaded it. I wish I had gone into more detail on the actual removal process and wiring - but I wasn't even sure I was going to finish the video (I started it last year while checking the switches).

I got the seat cushion from the local Porsche dealer - but you can find them online as well with a quick search. My advice - DEFINITELY get the new foam with the heating element. Trying to get the old heating element off and the new one on is going to be a pain + "while you're in there" you might as well get fresh foam. I can notice a difference getting in and out of the car now - especially the side bolster that gets smashed.
Happy to answer any questions - it is a bit tricky but if you go slow you should be fine.
One other thing that is VERY IMPORTANT. To remove the power seat control panel from the side of the seat, you remove the two small screws at the bottom of it and then SLIDE it UPWARDS. It goes up about a 1/2" and then comes free. If you try to pry it off you will break the tabs.

There are a bunch of these "gotcha" plastic pieces in the cabin of the 996 - one that got me is the upper light console by the rear view mirror... I was replacing a $.25 light bulb and snapped one of the tabs by pulling it straight down instead of sliding it forward (toward the windshield) first... The worst part was that I had done it before and did it the proper way, but had forgotten about it...
*** Video is definitely helpful!!! A little light on details, but helpful nonetheless
Yeah, I absolutely hate working in the interior. Trim pieces are just a nightmare if you're not familiar with exactly how they attach.
Sorry for the lack of details. I started off intending to document every step but then when I got to removing the seat I started procrastinating. Then, I just wanted to do it as quickly as possible and didn't bother documenting. If there are any questions about specifics, please don't hesitate to post here or on YouTube and I'll elaborate. My seat has the memory function, which added to the complexity of the wiring harness. There are some very good step by step removal guides online for non-memory seats.
Yeah, no sweat dude! I'm sure you covered the important stuff. The detail on those white cover clips is much appreciated
** My seats are the memory ones as well, so I may reach out to you when the time comes
There is a coupler where the wires all come together in the center under the seat. The entire coupler comes off by rotating it about 45 degrees. To remove the wires from it - it is super strange. There are little plastic clips that need to be pulled out and or removed and then the plugs come out of it in strange directions. Once you get to that point make sure to do some research and don't just start yanking on things. I can provide some more info if/when you're ready. The same applies for the plug on the module towards the front of the seat - there is a plastic clip that needs to be pulled up before it will pull out.
