Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello folks, I have been cyber stalking this website for years but I finally decided to sign up because of an issue Im having with my car. I have read other discussions on here that have similar problems to mine but I thought I would share my experience see if anybody had any thoughts . 1999 3.46 speed manual. 130 thousand miles well serviced. I went out for a cruise the other night and I opened her up on the highway a bit and around 5000 RPMs I felt a little flat spot in the power band. Did it a couple more times to make sure what I was feeling was real. First thing I thought was mass airflow sensor. So I ordered the correct Bosch part, confirmed the part number. Two days later I pulled the torque screws out and installrd the new one while the engine was still warm because I had driven it then took it for a spin and no more flat spot. Problem solved right? Next morning I get up to go get some coffee and the car will barely start. Sputtering, Colugging and misfiring then it would die. So I go back and pull the plug on the mass airflow and restart the car it runs perfect wtf! I let the car warm up for a while and I plug the MAF back in and the car works perfectly I drive it and theyre still no flat spot and no problem. Next morning same thing will not start cold with MaF plugged in. So then my thought was maybe the MAF was defective and I put the extra one I bought in and still no love. I dont mind taking the car to the shop. But for some reason in this situation I feel like its just gonna cost me $1000 for some stupid little thing that I overlooked. Can anyone give me a good suggestion?

You know thats the first thing I thought of checking into but I dont have a code reader. I did go ahead and order one but it wont be here until the 11th . Shipping always gets a little slow this time of year.🎄

POST 4Original post

So this issue did not exist until you changed the MAF. Now, regardless of which MAF is installed, the problem persists? Here are a couple of WAGs... 1) When installing the MAF, you dislodged something and have caused a vacuum leak. The effects of a vac leak are most pronounced at idle, where it runs like absolute crap. 2) You've got an aftermarket air intake and you're installing the MAF backwards. If you don't have to get the car smogged any time soon, disconnect the battery after reinstalling the NEW sensor. This will reset fuel trim parameters. Could be that the car is trying to trim based on values for the old (defective) MAF, and those values suck when a new, properly functioning MAF is installed...

Yes the problem still persists after the second maf was installed. I have a stock air intake but I never thought about the vacuum leak I will pull the maf out and take a look around again see if I dislodged something.. Thank you

Air Mass Sensor - Genuine Porsche G99660612300 Is this the part number you got? Agree, check the part number and reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery lead for 10 minutes, then see what happens. Are you pulling the air filter box when changing the MAF sensor? Is the clamp tight on the TB?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14647192

This is the part I bought it has the same part number as the one you gave me. I did not pull the airbox off so I did not play with the throttlebody clamps. But I will check those now. As far as pulling the power off the car goes I have not done that either so I will head back to my house as soon as I get my employee squared away and give it a whirl. The car is cold right now so I will do the battery before I try to crank it over. Thank you for the suggestions.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen, thank you for the advice. Removed the battery cable off the terminal for a little while before I started it this morning. Fired right up no problem. Mass airflow sensor is working as it should revs up smoothly all the way close to redline. Back to normal. Glad I signed up as a member here. Thank you guys I will stay active and contribute as much as I can. Cheers and have a good holiday!

Great end....was wondering what was wrong and thinking that you needed to get a Durametric to see what it's actually reading.
