Remove the hazard switch, and loosen the screw ( if it's not already loose), push down the cluster and tighten the screw back.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's an old post from 2006, here on RL: "I just noticed that there is a tiny gap between the instrument panel cluster and the actual dash. This is on the right side where the chrono would go (although I don't have one) - which is right above the air conditioner vents. Basically, the very right side of the instrument panel rides about 1/4" above the dash - letting me see a little of the connecting bracket and part of a wire (or looks like a wire). I swear that the whole instrument cluster was flush with the dash before, even the right side -> but now, I can see the gap. Does anyone have this issue? Is this something that can be easily fixed? (I'll try to get a pic up if my description isn't clear.) -td" Another poster took a picture of the scene of the crime: I've seen this on mind, and I've observed this gap in a bunch of other photos of 996 dashboards. I think it looks super cheesy, and so far my prayers that it will stop bugging me have gone unanswered. Any of you smart folks ever come up with a solve for this vexation? Best, Brad

POST 2Original post

Hey Brad, Post pictures of your dash cluster. Mine sits closer to the dash than your attached picture, but because of the design, it does have a weird "non flush" look about it. A big option thing with Porsche was upgrading your cluster to color gauges which may explain one reason for the design, but most people stick with the original that came with the car. There are YouTube videos that explain how to remove the cluster, but if my memory serves me well, there is not an adjustment to bring the cluster tighter to the dash. Sorry.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's the picture of my own dash. You can see daylight through there! Good for a peep hole if someone's in front of the car shooting at you, I guess, but so low-fi!

POST 4Original post

Have you tried pushing it down slightly, that whole section is held in with some locating clips. If that doesn't work try the removal and re installation procedure to see if you can get it flush. That would annoy me too!

POST 5Original post

Hey Brad, I checked mine and yours is definitely is sitting higher than normal. If it really bothers you that much, then I'd recommend looking at the YouTube link below and see if remounting it will help you. Again, I'm not sure of any height adjustments for the cluster, but maybe you take it out and see if it's missing something. How to Remove Speedometer Cluster from Porsche 911 for Repair. - YouTube

POST 6Original post

If a measly dash gap is the only issue that bothers you, then you're doing a lot better than most on RL. Lol Remember, don't jinx yourself. The moment you fix the gap, your IMS will go out. The moment you do a IMS retrofit, you will get cylinder scoring. The moment you rebuild the engine, some young girl texting while driving will total your car.

I wish that were the only thing that bothered me about the car, but I'm trying to use the 80/20 rule and choose my battles. Thanks everyone for your helpful feedback. I think I'll ask the guys at the Porsche dealership to try and make it look better. Will let you know the results.

POST 8Original post

Hey Brad, Here's a picture of my dash cluster. It's not completely flush, but probably doesn't have the same amount of gap.

POST 9Original post

As shown in the video, the cluster is held by two screws. Remove the hazard switch, and loosen the screw ( if it's not already loose), push down the cluster and tighten the screw back. That should hold the pod in place.
