Suggestion

Yes that is the timing chain tensioner could be the little rubber deal inside is letting a little oil past now with age or it could just need torquing up a little, check the torque setting and then check the bolt is right, if not You are able to change the seal, lock your engine at TDC, drop the oil then you can remove the tensioner, change the little green o ring inside and the crush washer which fits behind the big nut at the top, should do the trick ok

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Took my 996C2 Targa (2002) to the track yesterday (Thunderhill) - lots of fun. I have a small weep coming from the RMS area (been like that for a long time - even after I had RMS changed) - but I noticed more drips on the ground after the afternoon sessions - seems to be coming from around "plug" on bottom right side of engine (just behind sway bar). Pic attached - does anyone know what this is, and if it is common to see leak from there - and how that is fixed (re-seal plug) ? After the drive home - I did see a little more oil there - but no drips on the ground.

POST 2Original post

I believe that's a timing chain tensioner. Not sure if leaks are common though. Cheers Charlie

Thanks ... anyone know what torque spec is for that bolt ?
