1) Has anyone installed a thermos switch in the water jacket to automate the function instead of using a manual switch to ground (I have installed these thermo switches on other vehicles with great success)?.

You would simply tap off the hot side of the fan wire, and run a lead to your relay to supply power as determined by the temp setting on the thermo-switch element installed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found the 3rd rad kit from ECS and Pelican for the 1999 C2. 1) Are there any other complete kits available? 2) What modifications are needed for the front bumper cover and or inserts? For the fan mod: 1) Has anyone installed a thermos switch in the water jacket to automate the function instead of using a manual switch to ground (I have installed these thermo switches on other vehicles with great success)?. 2) Where can it be installed so it is close to the outlet of thermostat. It would need to be either a hose where you could tap into a smaller rubber hose (like 1/2 to 3/4" ID) with brass plumbing or 3/8 NPT female thread into the engine block or in/near the thermostat housing. There are many thermos switches available. For example if using a 160 deg F stat one might use a 200 deg on 185 off switch. Most of these seem to be 3/8 NPT screw in.

POST 2Original post

1. I don't know, I bought the center rad on rockauto, and the rad hoses from Porsche and made my own mounting frame. Saved about $400, but more work of course. 2. The center hole in the bumper cover has a glued-in plastic or resin duct cover. It must be removed by pushing it out from the back to the front after sitting in sun for a few hours. The glue will soften enough to push it out. Then, there is a duct which comes with the full kit that guides air from that hole to the center rad. I left the duct off and get plenty of air flow through, although if you get the kit, you'll put the duct on with some adhesive and maybe some small pan-head machine screws. Fan mod: 2. You will need to make up a probe tap from the thermo outlet. My suggestion would be to make it up to fit on the left intake of the rad while you are doing the center rad job. There is a long enough hose on the left side wheel well that is suitable for a made up probe tap for the thermo sensor. From there, it would be relatively simple to mount a relay in the frunk to service the existing fan or fans for each rad. You would simply tap off the hot side of the fan wire, and run a lead to your relay to supply power as determined by the temp setting on the thermo-switch element installed.

POST 3Original post

Doing my Center Rad right now. Rad from salvage with brackets, waiting for hoses from dealer. No shroud so far. If I knew, there are few Rad+Brackets+Shroud on eBay UK for what I paid for the rad only.
