Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
There is probably a kill switch for the jammer somewhere near the steering wheel.
Leading evidence: 'kill switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'kill switch' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Test effectiveness by an installer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I would have it tested for effectiveness by an installer.

I travel with a V1 for radar and use the Escort jammers for laser.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone- new owner here. I'll be picking up my new to me '03 C4S from Denver in two weeks and wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on helping me identify the radar detector that the previous owner had hard wired into the car. He's not sure exactly how long ago he had it installed and no longer has any paperwork on it. I'm not sure how useful the unit will be to me if it's more than a few years old. The unit is, I'm assuming, somewhere inside the dash and the only visible parts are the ones on the front and rear bumpers - see photos below. I figure this is a long shot, but I'd like to know more info on the unit if I can before I drive her the 1400 miles home to Louisiana. It's also apparently a radar/laser jammer - I'm not sure about the legality of this part as well as how well these actually work.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats on your new ownership. To me, it looks like an old unit. I would have it tested for effectiveness by an installer. My hunch, it will give you many false alerts and minimal protection for a long drive. May want to check the states you are driving through, as laser jammers are illegal in some states, if caught. Colorado is one of those states, so are, CA, IL, MN, SC, TN, UT, TX, and VA come to mind.
Its an Escort SRX. I have one in my C4S and love it. Yes, it has two radar jammers up front in the grills. The main unit on mine is located in the center arm rest cubby. I hope that helps.
Thank you everyone for the replies. And RockN'R- thanks! I'll check out the center cubby when I actually get to the car. How old is your unit? I'm just concerned that mine is old/ outdated.
The trick with Laser jammers is to quickly turn them off after they have served their purpose and jammed the Laser gun (and after you have slowed down).
Yes, laser jammers may be illegal in certain states. So is driving over the speed limit.
There is probably a kill switch for the jammer somewhere near the steering wheel. Usually down below.
There is a kill switch- I believe it's located by the driver's right knee. Will hopefully be able to find the main unit once I start looking around so I can start by identifying what I have. I was pretty stoked to find out the car had a built-in unit (the seller told me he paid close to 3k to have that bad boy installed!); less so when I started thinking about how old it may be.
Yeah, my jammer kill switch is right by my right knee. It gives an alert sound which I then hurry and disable the jammers. The police will get a 999 display on their laser display and shoot you again. In the time they reshoot the laser at you it gives time to slow down and disable the jammers. I also have a little LED light right below the gas gauge that is solid green unless there is radar, then it turns red and blinks faster as the radar gets closer. I travel with a V1 for radar and use the Escort jammers for laser. So far so good. It was $2500 for the unit and another $500 for the install. Top of the line ten years ago.
