I didn't discover that until I had already installed a replacement.

It worked out just fine for a couple of months until I had the shop replace the stupid filler tube while other work was being done.

I don't want anything sucked into the filler tube putting something inside and using a clamp to compress the piping below to keep from swallowing it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It worked out just fine for a couple of months until I had the shop replace the stupid filler tube while other work was being done.
I broke my filler tube in two placed today wrestling out a K&N intake for the stock airbox. Obviously I wasn't paying attention. It isn't in a condition to attempt a patch repair.
Here is the actual question. I've seen a note or two about capping the end of the filler tube as a temporary measure. So I used permatek black gasket sealer and cut a loose lid down to size to fit it over the remaining hose. It fits over the bellows, not inserted as some have. I don't want anything sucked into the filler tube putting something inside and using a clamp to compress the piping below to keep from swallowing it.
My replacement tube will not arrive until Friday. Can I drive is during the time I wait? Do I need to drill a 1/16 in hold in the cap to allow it to 'breathe' or leaving sealed until Friday. I just need to drive it 2.5 miles to the shop then home when they finish up on Friday. Just in time to start tearing things down to get to the back 2 screws holding to the tube to the engine block that should arrive later that afternoon.
Will it be safe enough to operate it for that amount of time without damaging the engine? (Note: this will be a moot point by the time Tuesday 8 Sept (tomorrow)) Yeah, I can let it sit until the part is installed, but making an appointment is usually 2 weeks or so out before I can make another to get the work done.
TIA
I broke my filler tube a few years ago too. Used an 1-1/2 rubber plumbing coupling, a bit of pipe and a screw on clean out assembly to temporarily fix it.

I THINK I had to seal up the connection to existing filler tube with some black electrical tape or it whistled at the small leak when the engine was running. I don’t think you need to drill a hole for venting.
Replace it once and never worry about breakage again . I just had this one with track drain installed on my 3.8 . Very nice piece .

I've fixed a broke in half filler pipe on my seal grey 996.2 with heat shrink tube 2 years ago. Double layered up at the broke area. Was suppose to be temporary, got the new tube but haven't put it in yet. Surprised how good that fix was/is. Smoke tested and its tight no leaks, vacuum or oil.
Here is what I used. Used a heat gun to shrink it tight. Don't remember exactly the size, think it was 80mm dia? Probably best to measure the end you need to slip it over to get the smallest dia heat shrink.

I broke down and bought the newer version. The optional tube looks like a winner though since I plan on getting the UAOS a bit further down the road.
Thank you for all the suggestions.
