Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check battery at 2 places' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'dead crank position sensor' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check battery at 2 places' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey, I've got a no-start situation. Car is in my garage (02 996 C2). To get it out of the garage, I have a sharp right turn (slight incline) and then an incline to the street (both downhill) - to a flatbed.
I'm sure the brakes will be stiff. Will I be able to steer it and use e-brake if I try to go a little at a time? Any suggestions?
[Please, have mercy on me with your comments.]
There's no room for the flatbed to pull-in and load it straight out. Heck, there's barely room for me to make the tight turn itself.
[Starter is fine, cranks but won't start; checked fuses; replaced FP relay; checked battery at 2 places. I rapped the FP - not too hard. I forgot to disconnect/reconnect wires to FP (in case of oxidation). Trucking to my indie...]
Try an e-gas recalibration first since it's easy. Put the key to the last position before crank and with your foot off the gas pedal. Wait for 60 seconds. Then turn key to off for 10 seconds. Then retry cranking. Does the tach needle bounce a bit when you crank? If not, it's likely a dead crank position sensor. If it does, could be fuel related. Checked fuses C1 to C4 and E1? Can you hear the fuel pump prime for 1 second when you turn the key to the last position before crank?
The steering will be vary stiff and so will the brakes. Don't rely on the e-brake to stop the car though. Just press very hard on the brake pedal. Keep the key in the ignition so the steering wheel won't lock accidentally when straightened. Get the wheel chocks ready in case the car keeps rolling.
Thanks, Ahsai. I tried the recalibration. The tach bounces very little (literally around the bottom tic on the gauge). How much should it bounce? I rechecked all fuses. I do not hear the fuel pump prime. (BTW, I cannot find a figure for the CPS. Is that the same as the purple arrow in this figure:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...arge/pic04.jpg
i.e., crank angle sensor?)
Thanks for the note on braking and chocks. Have to wait til the flatbed gets here.
Yes, the purple arrow is the one. The tach needle should bounce very little like 1/8", just like you described.
Sounds like your cps is fine and your fuel pump is not running. Either not getting power or the pump has failed.
You can at least unplug the fuel pump power plug and ohm out the fuel pump motor (the pins on the pump that correspond to the thick wires). Should measure a few ohms.
