There is a company in the UK that sells a buckle blank that plugs into it, then you can use any seat and disable the air bag.

I picked up a two owner 996 that had this device (just a bracket with a seat belt receiver that plugs into a socket under the seat) and wanted to install a fire exitinguisher and did not know if you needed to use a PIWIS to reprogram the ECU.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was going to post a question about removing the Porsche Child Seat Airbag Deactivation Device (993 803 283 00) before doing it but never got around it so here you go. I picked up a two owner 996 that had this device (just a bracket with a seat belt receiver that plugs into a socket under the seat) and wanted to install a fire exitinguisher and did not know if you needed to use a PIWIS to reprogram the ECU. I guess you do because I switched out the device for the fire extinguisher my airbag light come on. I figured that a reset would solve that. The light came back on upon restart so I reinstalled the bracket over the extinguisher mount and reconnected the cable - boom - no more light. Being cheap, I'll just leave it in but if you have one and remove ot be aware.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pelican Parts has them listed at $250. Apparently you need a Porsche Child Seat that has the proper buckle. You need to get the ECU set for this as well.

Yes you need the PIWIS (or the older model (PSTAT? or something)), but you don't need their seat. There is a company in the UK that sells a buckle blank that plugs into it, then you can use any seat and disable the air bag. It was only 13 when I installed ours a couple years ago.

POST 5Original post

I did two buckles. One I bought a piece of S''' buckle off eBay and just cut it to work. And I got the one from the uk company. Both work fine.
