Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I bought a Cabriolet 996 and the rear glass of the hard top came shattered. I've been looking into options and I have a neighbor who helps me but I am still confused and wanted to ask what you all think. Do I try to get a glass window? A whole hard top replacement? An acrylic replacement? A polycarbonate replacement? Even further, how do I get a polycarbonate replacement? Are eBay and craigslist my only options? Any help is helpful, I have no clue what I'm doing Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I would say call a windshield replacement company as they do all types of glass replacements . Let them give a quote and go from there . In my opinion this is best left to the pros .

POST 3Original post

Don't get lexan/polycarbonate as a replacement. The buffeting due to it flexing at speed and the increased noise will drive you mad.

POST 4Original post

Part #996-563-091-00, around $1650 from Porsche.

I'd bolt it back on the car and call my insurance company. Most auto insurance comprehensive/collision covers rear windshields with full replacement, no deductible . jmo

POST 6Original post

I would think twice about calling the insurance company. While there may be no deductible, they can use the claim as a reason to raise your rate if they have no one to subrogate the claim to. Bastards.

POST 7Original post

Using auto glass insurance typically does not raise your rates for a single glass claim because glass damage falls under comprehensive coverage , which covers events outside your control. At least worth asking your insurance claim dept,,,, yes..? IMHO, especially at $$$$ for Porsche glass,,, using glass auto insurance is the 1 time you can comfortably use auto insurance you've been paying for years without much worry about increase premiums... jmho

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't use my insurance company. The glass was already broken on the hard top when I bought the car. I've been looking for hard tops, but I'm mainly looking for a glass replacement. I can't find any idea of what to do.
