You claim to have babied the car - "using Klass AIO/SG and claybarred twice a year" Considering that you've only had the car since 10/06 that's really not difficult to do, as you've only had the car a little over a year - doing two detailing jobs in the time that you've owned it is hardly an achievement that's worth an award and does not demonstrate a consistent record of high attention ownership - you're taking credit for the work that Alan put into the car and not your own.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Nice car - pity that the Carrera S didn't exist in '02, so that's not a correct description.
I like the car, but it's seriously overpriced. The owner is trying to reclaim the cost of an abundance of mods that usually difficult to add to the price of a sale.
I wish the owner luck, but I think that he'll have a hard time selling for that price.
The owner would be better taking the car back to stock and selling some of the mods separately - that or just accepting that they will not get much of a boost in price for them. I'd pay for the factory aero kit, but not that much.
I plugged this car into the pricing tool at edmunds.com, was generous with options and found the car to be priced over what a dealer would be asking for it. Needs to come down to around $39K then it might be more reasonable.
I don't think it's way overpriced, but a little yes. I was wondering abut the 2S description also. He should know better. If I added the bumper, wing and wheels, I'd keep the original parts and put them back on for resale.
Hey, technically he's correct, but it's still a sport that puts stresses on the car, so he's stretching the truth. The combination of price and lack of truth in advertising would make me ask some serious questions on this one.
As for price - if you do an Autotrader search within 300 miles of his zip code, then even the dealers are coming in with lower prices than him - his car is the most expensive. I don't class that as a good deal.
That car was formally owned by a Rennlister who lived in Cincinnati. However I'm having a senior moment and can't remember who's car it was.
**edit...I'm not as old as I thought...it belonged to member (Alan C.)
Andy
Saw that, too. For me, that would put a serious dent on the credibility of anything else he said about the car. He should remove the 2S designation.
996
never
had a 2S. The 993's had them, and the 997's have them.
...and a quick search of this forum shows Alan C with posts about his track time, so unless he has another track car, then that blows the rest of his credibility.
Also NOT a factory installed aero kit. The 02 model didn't have that option available .(looks like it might be a GT3 rear wing?) I would definitely question everything he says in the ad.
if the car was as stated, great looking car that looks to be well maintained.
but it's clear we got our rennlist secret service agents on the investigative front to hold folks accountable.
i'm one of those who would pay a premium for an aerokitted car whether factory fitted or done up my the owner from a good shop. i'd never roll a nonaerokitted 911. way too bland.
That was Alan C's old car. My friend bought the car from Alan when he lived in Cinncinati. It's a great car and is only driven on the weekends in good weather. As for the C2S designation he was probably having a senior moment when he wrote the description. He changes his mind from time to time on selling it but it's a fantastic car. The Aero kit and all mods where done by Alan. He bought the car as Alan had it. By the way he's a member of this forum but he doesn't come here much.
If you guys think that autocross places stress on a car that's pretty funny. As far as I know, he has not tracked the car as it spends most of it's time being babied in his garage.
Here is one of the days that it made it out of the garage.
PM me if you want his contact,
Pete
Well, I am the owner of the car and felt compelled to come on here since people are claiming I am lying.
I'm not sure how I am lying?
a) If it is listed as a c2s, I apologize since this must have been an error on my part. It is not a C2S (not even sure if they offered that - I think they only offered the C4S??). It is a C2 ... 2002 996 C2. I will double-check my ad; but, I may have made a mistake in typing. Does not have an LSD -- it is not AWD. It is 2WD.
b) Alan purchased this from Beechmont Porsche. It was a CPO car. Alan hurt his back -- and the X74 suspension was very hard on him. I believe he owned it about 2-3 months. I offered to buy it from him and I believe Alan bought an NSX which is easier on his back.
c) I never tracked the car. I never autocrossed this car. People that know me -- understand that I raced a '1997 M3 in IP (BMWCCA). I also autocrossed that same M3 in NCC BMWCCA and SCCA. I did not autocross it or track the car. Never got the chance to ....
I have 'driven' the car TO BMWCCA autocrosses because I have helped set up the autocross and breakdown the autocross -- but, I have not driven the car in the autocross. In fact, Pete (BMWCCA autocross chairman last year) wanted me to -- he bought my old 996 C2 (1999) that I had -- but, an idiot hit him which totalled the car. He ended up getting another one. However, I always told him I did not want to -- otherwise, I would be lying to people if I said it was not autocrossed. I've always thought about selling it ...
d) I am not trying to hide anything. Please feel free to email or call me (james) dot (derry) at (gmail) dot (com) or two-zero-two, three two zero, three eight two one.
Beechmont Porsche took care of the car while I was in Cincinnati, OH. Then, when I moved back to Northern VA, I had HBL of Porsche of Tyson's handle everything. They are the ones that did the 30K service (although, they did do it just this past Nov. 2007). My service advisor at HBL is Garrett if you want to speak with him.
I hope this clarifies matters ... I never intended to misrepresent or mislead people.
Yes, and for the people hating on me because it has a GT3 rear badge on it, that is what Alan gave me to put on the back. The 911 badge he said cost around $200+ ... whereas the GT3 badge was $21 or something like that. So, it is not a GT3; but, does have a GT3 badge.
I may not be as wealthy as some of you; but, I am not trying to be a poseur or live outside my means. I represent the car for what it is - beautifully maintained by the previous owner and myself - no accidents/no excuses. So, I have this C2, an E60 530i, E39 530i, E36 M3 IP race car, and a Lexus ES350. I daily drive the E39 530i. The E60 530i and Lexus are the cars I bought my fiance -- one nice car, and one fun car for her. The C2 is my fun weekend car (when it is sunny - when it rains or is cloudy - I do not drive it). You can look at all my cars -- I do take immaculate care of them.
Thanks,
James
Thanks for the clarification, but your ad. is misleading and incorrect.
i) the car is listed as C2S - that car did not exist in '02
ii) the ad. states "factory installed aerokit" when in fact Alan did the install, not the factory
iii) the ad. states "I did not track the car". That might be correct, but posts here at Rennlist suggest that the previous owner did.
iv) Your ad. implies that you are the original owner and that is not correct.
v) GT3 badge on the back represents the car as something that it is not.
I apologize if you think that we're being hard on you, and you may be advertising in good faith, but anyone who knows the history of the car can tell that you're being misleading. There's nothing to say that this is not a great car, but the ad. is misleading and leads to more questions than the car deserves - that's on top of it being more expensive than any 2002 Porsche within 300 miles of you.
Hi James. Sorry to say, I agree with wellardmac. The issue is the ad, not the car. I can see that it is an excellently optioned, well maintained, cared-for car. It should sell well on those points alone.
Yup, you're doing the car a disservice by being misleading - the ad. loses you and the car credibility.
This is a well optioned car that (at the right price) should sell itself.
A misleading ad. causes hesitation because if you can't trust the seller to be accurate in the ad., then the buyer has no clue what else what else you might be hiding.
Not meaning to beat this to death, but honestly just re-read your ad. with an unbiased eye.
Going back to the car, I really don't think it's all that overpriced for the right buyer. Regular '02 996 owners seem to be asking $36-42k and most are probably selling closer to $36K. But most of them are bone stock. The MKII kit if OEM is about $6k plus $1K paint and install (if lucky), Suspension $3.2k installed, wheels $2k (low end guess). Vflow $.7k. That's almost $13k if you were going to do it yourself. I don't think he's very far off if he can find someone who understands this stuff and is looking for the GT3 look (like me).
I have an '03 with MKII skirts and PSS9's but want the aerokit and new wheels. I'm going back and forth between buying an existing car that's already done or doing it myself. It would definately cost me more to do it myself, so I'd be willing to pay a premium for a car that fits the bill. James problem is there are only so many people out there like me.
