Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I purchased a leather clamshell case and used 3M, 2 sided tape, to secure it to the trim panel in front of the shifter.

At this point, my two alternatives are: a permanent cradle, or I'll go ahead and drill a hole in the bottom of the center console compartment to run the IPOD cable through, and just stuff it in there.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had my Alpine deck installed a couple weeks ago. I have a cable from the deck that allows my Ipod Nano to be controlled and charged by the deck. I'm trying to figure out what cradle to get and how/where to mount it. I have the GT3 center console delete. I will probably mount it on the upper center console delete peice (I currently have the wire coming out in front of the shifter). I appreciate any advice.
Benjamin, the 99 996 doesn't have a glove box. I have a difficult time reaching back to my center console and it is already the only place for me to put my garage door opener, gate opener, cell phone, and sun glasses. Space is at a premium. The glove box would have been a practical location. Thanks for the suggestion.
You can route the wire to the ashtray and make the ipod sit there.
OT: I'm REALLY liking that steering wheel on the 996. I'm quite tempted to just yank the one from my 944 and slap it on my 996. I already have the Momo adapter for the 996 sitting here...waiting!
Arnie, it is my favorite mod that I have done to the car, so far. I love the feel and I don't miss the airbag assembly.
Benjamin, I appreciate the thought and you taking the time to respond.
+1 with the nano.
Had a bracketron mount originally in between head unit and lower center (your delete). Arms slid in between to pieces (similar to vent mount). I took it out after about a week because it looked butt ugly and total aftermarket.
I have that unit too, I think. If it was me, I'd put the iPod in the console box and find another solution for your stuff. My console box currently contains the iPod, a tire gage, parking card, the car's papers, and the stupid remote that came with the head unit. Phone is usually on the seat beside me, to be honest.
When you say there is no glove box on the 99, are you referring to the bins in the doors?
bruce he's referring to the actual glove box in the dash in front of the passengers legs. the 99s don't have them (crazy).
i'd also give priority to the ipod in the center console. there's no better , more elegant way to stash it.
bruce, you got the 9887. that one just needs software to go IMPRINT whereas my 9886 needs the module. either way i decided against imprint since it requires you to setup mics and stuff in the interior. i'm sure it sounds lovely.
Okay, got it. 2000s don't have them either. So, that said, with the space available in the door bins, I have to believe you could wiggle that iPod into the console box without too much difficulty.
My dealer just got the gear to do the IMPRINT thing, and my car is going in this week. It's a two hour procedure, they say. But then it's set. Hopefully it'll be worth it. I'll let you know.
Here is the current location of my IPOD. I was hoping to find a cradle for it so that I could mount it near where is is now...possibly on the upright portion of the GT3 center console delete. Part of the problem might be my ignorance of the device. Do you have to turn it off when you shut off the car? The screen goes dark after a few seconds, but I can still read it with a light. I don't want to accidentally ruin the battery.
I bought the new silver Nano. It won't fit in the ash tray like my wife's older pink Nano did. I have seen the ash tray modofication that 5point5 does...I didn't care for it. It is expensive and looks like something I would break easily. I put my fragile stuff in the center because everything in the door pockets takes a beating. My kids close the doors like they would in a truck.
Does anybody have the DICE cradle? It appears to be pretty nice. At this point, my two alternatives are: a permanent cradle, or I'll go ahead and drill a hole in the bottom of the center console compartment to run the IPOD cable through, and just stuff it in there.
Thanks for the ideas guys.
Well.... my experience... it's not an ideal sync like if you turn off the car, the ipod shuts down to conserve battery.
for example, i get outta the car come back and the track does not resume at the point at which i shut the car off.
it's continuing to play and while the car's running the ipod is being charged.
i haven't really analyzed it since i don't really care enough to do it since the ipod is in there most times unless i do want tunes while i'm going for a run or working out at the meat market.
Location on the console actually looks pretty good if you do not mind prying eyes when you park. How avout a small piece of Velcro tape? You could then place it any where you would like..
Might be something wrong, there, my friend. Mine picks up the track exactly where it was when I shut the car down. I wonder if the installer powered it with a circuit that isn't key-dependent.
nope i've read up on this - it's a known issue on the alpine units i'm just not sure if it's just for the touch or some of the other models.
which ipod are u using bruce?
Thanks for the advice guys. I went to Best Buy to see what they had. I thought that all of their auto mounting products look like garbage. They did not have the DICE cradle. Rather than installing the DICE cradle, I went for a custom approach...Steven B, you hit the nail on the head. I purchased a leather clamshell case and used 3M, 2 sided tape, to secure it to the trim panel in front of the shifter. If I still like it after a few days, I'll velcro it in place.
My IPOD does shut down, a short time after I turn the car off. Thanks again guys.
