Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'relatively painless' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'relatively painless' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check "milky stuff"' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I had opened it the day before to check for the "milky stuff" that will sometimes show up in there, and had not closed it tight enough.

Tried again and gave it a little gas to keep it running, no such luck.

Once you get the codes you can post them here for some "getting started" help (or use the Renntech OBD II codes lookup).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I may have done my first stupid thing in the 996. I've use BGK44 in my BMW's and have always had no injector issues. Poured a bottle in yesterday to a full tank of gas, and today, after about 40 miles on the tank, I could hear/feel the engine stumbling,
and then the CEL, came on and then cleared. After a few hundred yards, worse stumbling, CEL. Now CEL is on solid, and I can't get RPMs above 2500 w/o stumbing, and the "Drive to the workshop" message. I'm assuming I loosened some detritis and have clogged am injector(s), Took it to the nearest good Porsche indy, he's going to read the codes. Guess I better invest in the Durametric software!
The Durametric is great, I am very happy with it. You can also go to most Autozones and they will let you borrow one to use in their lot to read the codes. Once you get the codes you can post them here for some "getting started" help (or use the Renntech OBD II codes lookup). Hope it works out ok, let us know what cel codes came up.
Well,,, it wasn't QUITE as simple as a loose gas cap, (I checked for that as well as loose oil filler and dipstick), but almost. #1 cylinder spark plug/coil pack wire was loose. Just held on by the rubber boot. 30k service was done about 1k miles ago by an indy, so it is not an unexpected mistake. Hard to see & reach due to the shield, $147 later, everything is right in the world again! Apparantly the BGK44 was a coincidence (I HATE when that happens). But as rough as it was running and the wierd CEL behavior, I still think it was better safe than sorry to have it towed (I have AAA) and checked out. If I had done the work myself, like I usually do, I'd have known exactly where and what to check, but seeing as I've had the car for less than a week and have'nt even gotten a chance to read the manuals, I was pretty much at the mechanics mercy. Good indy in Richmond, VA, Luftecknics, especially for the air-cooled. Nice clean organized shop. He checked all the other wires, and gave it a good once over, cleared all the codes including service codes, said everything is fine. I still ordered the Autoenginuity software/hardware..it would have almost paid for itself on this one issue. So if anyone in Richmond needs to have some codes read/cleared/diagnosed in the future, drop me a PM.
I am glad that you found the culprit and thanks for sharing your experiences bc someone like me could benefit from such an occurence as it could happen to anyone here. WOW what a coincidence with the injector cleaner product, I would react the same way as you did, scary... Cheers,
Good to hear it was something simple. I've had great success with BG44k, use it in all my vehicles. IMHO, one of the only additives anywhere that truly works well. Techron also works, but BG44K is WAY stronger. Just got my C2 about 3 months ago, so I've not used it in it yet. I usually add it pretty close to when I'm going to change the oil, just in case it dilutes it a little, better safe....
I had a similiar experience a few nights ago, went to start the P, and it shook, stumbled and died. Tried again, same thing- sounded horrible. Tried again and gave it a little gas to keep it running, no such luck. Would not even idle. Had thoughts of a blown engine, etc in my head, it was my very first problem..... Opened the engine lid, took a look around and decided to retighten the oil filler cap and all was well! I had opened it the day before to check for the "milky stuff" that will sometimes show up in there, and had not closed it tight enough. Car was SUPER sensitive to this air leak!
