Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99' 996 C2 that currently weights 2890lbs. I am looking to shed some more weight I know that I saw a posting once with ALL the possible weight reducing items in the car. I want to know what is the best approach to it? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Some things off the top of my head: -Lose the spare tire -Smaller battery -Racing buckets -Use muffler bypass pipes -Lighter wheels -Carbon fiber every panel possible -PCCB brakes

POST 3Original post

2890lbs?? That seems pretty light already.. You sure about that #?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have race seats, no paneling or carpet in the trunk, rear seat items removed. I still have all the carpet inside and noise reducing material. It is a ton of work to remove all the carpet and I want to know what sort of weight gains I will make.

POST 6Original post

Crazy, I had mine weighed at 3020, with race seats, no rear seats, and roll bar. You should feel lucky.

Well, it is time for a Sawzall and some large twist bits . Time to cut out anything not structural.

POST 8Original post

My gawd John, your car is a sled Dont feel bad, mine was 3220

POST 9Original post

A 99 C2 according to Porsche weighs 2910lbs. but the factory has been a bit optimistic with their actual weights. Did you actually weigh your car? How much fuel in the tank?

POST 10Original post

With GT3 seats, Teq roll bar, no rear seats, and full tank of gas my 99 996 weighs 3,075. I know because I had to have it weighed for the DE club I go to the track with... It establishes my class (lb/hp) I think 2,890 is very light.... I am curious to know what you have removed already as I have toyed with making other weight saving measures as well but am reluctant as I still drive this car on the street... for now anyways..

POST 11Original post

I weighed mine half tank of gas, pretty much right after driving into the pits. It is a sled.

POST 12Original post

...one of the best way to make power is to reduce unsprung weight

I'm with everyone else here...I'd kill for my 99 to be 2890. Is your car a no-sunroof car? What's already been done to weight would be a good thing to know in advance. I've actually been compiling a list of weight savings possible but it would help to konw what you've already done first. Andy

POST 14Original post

The best way to know your car's weights is to go to a dumster near by and park on the scale then subtract your weights. I did that on my 951 and get 2900lbs.

POST 15Original post

My car corner balanced at 3085 w/o my 175lbs and 1/4 tank of gas. The interior is intact. I think I increased weight by going with the JICs, GT3 sway bars, and TRG links. I lost weight by dropping the spare tire and moving to the 02 5 spoke wheels. Looking for even lighter wheels right now. Also looking at dropping weight on the exhaust side. Here's a weight reduction thread from the GT3 board. Good stuff here. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=43587

Just curious what wheels are you using? In your avatar it looks like you have sport designs.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 4717222

i'm just a little skeptical. i just had mine corner balanced and it came up 2963. thats with a half cage, bypass pipes, LWF, no seats, sound deadening and carpet in rear, CF hood, 2 race seats, fikse lightweight wheels, and a 1/4 tank gas.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The weight of my car is with no driver and no fuel. As for options I have: -18" Sport Designs -GT3 control arms -GT3 Camber Plates -GT3 Sway Bars -Full Moton suspension -Cargraphic Full System -Strut/Belt Brace Items Removed: -Spare Tire -Tool Kit -Trunk Carpeting -Trunk Plastics -Stock Seats -Rear Carpeting -Floor Mats -Stock Exhaust

POST 19Original post

So what weight saving wheels would you recommend for the cost conscious? Mine weighs a tonne, need to loose them.

Impressive setup. From there you have to start asking yourself what you can realistically live without. BUT first...the sport designes are the heaviest OEM wheels possible for the car (I have them too and love the looks but hate the weight). Also you havn't listed a lightweight battery. After that you can remove insulation and carpeting in the rear Porsche Motorsports plastic rear window Porsche Motorsports plastic rear quarter windows. Center console delete. Remove the struts for the hood and trunk lids remove door speakers empty and possibly remove the windsheild washer resivoir AND if you really want to get extreme about it: Removing AC drops about 40 lbs Bumper bars are approx. 20lbs each (x2) And replacing as many of the nuts and bolts in the car with titanium units. After about the 3000lb mark you really have to ask yourself if you're really OK wit removing any more weight as it will start to effect function and comfort of the car. And items also get much much more expensive at that point. Andy

POST 21Original post

Will these wheel sizes fit on a C2? Fronts 18x8.5, 49mm offset. Rears are 18x11, 60mm offset.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 4718897

What wheel width & offsets do you currently have on the car? I am not that familiar with the '99 OEM wheel options. If you can give me that info, I can tell you how much the "proposed" wheels will vary from your current wheels.

Also, cut off any threads from the bolts that extends past any nuts.

POST 24Original post

Driving commando instead of wearing BVD's might shave a few ounces.

POST 25Original post

I found this thread on another forum that has some good weight reduction information from the 996 turbo side. They really want to get lighter http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=71489

POST 27Original post

Trim the little "hairs" on your tires. They create wind resistance and add drag to the car.

POST 28Original post

I think I am going with the lightwieght battery as well now. It's also makes mounting my kill switch very easy and straightforward.
