Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Looks like you have capabilities to adjust your end links with those sway bars.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust end links' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust end links' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Wipe it off and clean the area up well, drive it and re-inspect, if it is truly leaking then it will appear again.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, new here
. Just picked up my first ever Porsche: it's a '01 996 C4. The car was sold with 'European suspension' and from what I can tell it's the X73 suspension (well, it's yellow
). The front right squeaks like crazy. I can put pressure on the fender and bounce it to hear the squeak. I'm going to put the car in the air this weekend to see if I can narrow down the source. However, seeing as this is my first P car I'm not entirely sure what to look for. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Ahem!
<Tim clears his throat and rubs his hands together >
UFO - welcome to Rennlist and congrats on getting the C4. Your car "sounds" nice, but we can't tell for certain.
It is customary for "newbies" to tell us a little about themselves and their P-car, which you did, and to post pics of the car. So.... come on "newbie," post the !@#$%^&* pics!
This is all in good fun and we really do like pics!
Again Welcome to Rennlist!
Eh, it looks like every other Seal Grey 996 out there, except it has a hole in the front bumper.
This was taken during filming on Tattooine:
No more hover car:
I did search, honest
, but nothing really matched my exact scenario. It looks 'wet' around the mounting point on the shock so I'm thinking it's maybe a leak.
No problem - I thought you might have the typical squeaky A-arm bushing, which can often be temporarily relieved by a little lube. If it's a bad shock, you might consider upgrading to M030.
Argggg, I spelled it wrong.

In the above pic it looks like the car's floating, like the car Luke drives in Star Wars. Lame, I know.
lol...yep a little lame especially when I am not a Star Wars fan although I have done work for Lucas Film and been to the Ranch and met George.
Other than that, the closest I have gotten to anything else Star Wars is when we went to Tikal in Guatemala and climbed to the top of Temple IV, which is where the rebel base of Yavin IV in episode IV was located and filmed, the jungle below was also used in the filming (so I am told):
I'm no Star Wars geek but that's just cool
.
OK, so, I can't fit my floor jack under the car and it won't clear the Rhino ramps. Bummer. Anyway, I did eventually get it in the air but with both wheels off the ground I can't isolate the source of the noise. I really would like to know why the heck my sway bar looks like this though:
Is that normal??? It looks like at least 2 of the holes might have been drilled outside of the factory.
I'm not so sure it's leaking either as I figure it would be more than just in this area:
In case you're wondering why I'm clueless when it comes to P cars: it's because I came from this:
Looks like you have capabilities to adjust your end links with those sway bars.
Doesn't look like your shock is leaking, looks more like someone has sprayed a lubricant to stop the car from squeaking or left over lubricant from the shock install and dirt has stuck to whatever was used. Wipe it off and clean the area up well, drive it and re-inspect, if it is truly leaking then it will appear again.
I just bought some Wurth's from Amazon (had a gift certificate
). I'll try that first and take it from there.

Off to do some of this next weekend in the 996:
Looking forward to running some slower lap times
.
Your suspension looks like it is the x73 spring shock combo, but upgraded to the GT3 swaybar. The shock is made by Bilstein and may be rebuildable if it is leaking. I'd drop the sway bar, hit it with a wire brush and then shoot it with some rustoleum.
+1 on cleaning the area and seeing if the oil returns.
Def. has GT3 adjustable bars on it. Look at the custom home-made looking front drop links in the second picture. Nothing wrong with it as long as they don't break as many members shortened their OEM links to work with the GT3 bar before the adjustable ones became readily available. Just keep an eye on them from time to time.
I have no input on the squeek however...should do OK at the track with that setup however.
OK, I'm confused....I decided to go look at adjustable drop links to rid myself of those creations of Frankenstein and they're all real short. In fact, looking at pictures, it seems that the shock mounting point (near the wet spot) is where the links attach. Why do mine go all the way up by the strut tower?
Here's a pic of the adjustable ones:
And here's mine:
Yours mount in the factory position, the after market ones mount lower, piggybacked on the strut clamping bolt. Shorter means less flex and the bar will have a stronger effect on body roll. It looks to me like the original owner took a short cut and made his own links. Not optimal, but not necessarily bad either.
Actually...I'm pretty sure the C4 mounts are in a different location then the C2 to allow clearance for the half shaft....could be wrong there but I'm pretty sure.
