Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is Basalt Black, 16,000 miles, PSE, PSM, perfect condition. I was offered $42.5 from a dealer/wholesale guy that wants to use it for personal use then sell it within the year. Would this be a fire sale? I'm a motivated seller because I'm moving but it just seems a little cheap.

POST 2Original post

Sounds like a good buy for him. Not so good for you.

POST 3Original post

I paid 38K for a 02 coupe with 35K miles to give you an idea

POST 5Original post

45k minimum. Dealer will turn that car around for high 40's easily.

I bet that car will be on his lot the next day with a price tag on it much higher than what he paid you. So 'Don't do it'. The only time you need to get taken like this is if you have exhausted all other possibilities of selling the car yourself, or if it just has to go due to financial issues. But it doesn't take long to throw an add online or in the local news paper for a few dollars to see if you can get more (i.e. $50 to get an extra $5,000 - simple math). And if you do not think you are a sales person and can sell the car, well you might amaze yourself when the time comes, or find a friend that can do it So yes his price is too low

POST 7Original post

Of course the dealer is going to mark it up. They are in the business to make money. If you just want to get rid of it and not deal with selling the car, then I would trade it. But if you want to keep 3-5K in your pocket, then sell it private Party. I never trade my cars in. Its a pain in the *** to private party, but i rather get a extra couple grand. You get people acting like they want it, but all they want to do is go for a joy ride. Its hard to tell the difference between a real buyer and fake one. Good luck

POST 8Original post

The easiest way is to trade it. The extra $ you will get in a private sale has always been worth it to me to take the time and sell it myself. GL

POST 9Original post

Man that seems really low. I sold an 04 coupe back in July for a great deal more than that. It had 10k miles on it. I think you should be in the upper 40's. Nothing less than 45 and probably 48ish. I bet that is what he would sell it for.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I do need to sell it pretty quick. We're moving and I don't have the room for it and frankly, I'm hemorraging cash on various elements of my move, closing costs, etc. I know going into the winter isn't helping me either up here in CT. Is $42.5 today better than $45 in the spring? The car is another model year old too. Hard decision (let alone the angst of getting rid of the car in general).

POST 11Original post

You answered your own question"I need to sell it pretty quick".Why not try an ad for 1 week first for $45k, then if no sale dump it to dealer and be done with it.

POST 13Original post

I remember when you got your car - you got a smokin deal on it... 56k, right? A few months before you I paid the same for a similairily equipped car, and it was coupe!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually paid $52 back in February so I didn't get dinged too bad. Still painful though.
