Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Time to make some noise. I have finally decided to make the mod and prefer to use alternate set. Does anyone have a set of stock 3.6 mufflers I can buy from them? I am located in So Cal and will make a reasonable drive to pick them up and save you the time of packing them or will be happy to pay the shipping to me at 91360. Please PM or post. Thanks, eric

POST 2Original post

there's a set in the classifieds for 475. High if you ask me, but they seem to be a hot commodity now. FYI...I bought a set last month for 150 from a fellow RL'er. J

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 4635365

Wow 475 that is way too high. +1 on the 150 from a fellow Rennlist'r So hold out Eric until the good deal comes around

POST 4Original post

I sold my stock ones to a fellow RL'er for $100 and I bought my other set for $100 too from a fellow RL'er. $475 is too much.

POST 5Original post

I will sell my set of 3.6 cans for $150 plus shipping that I bought to do the mod, but it turned out my noisy PSE was a loose O2 sensor so I don't need them. Anyone interested PM me. But I will not be able to ship until after Oct 12th. I am going away for a week on Friday. First firm offer takes them.

POST 6Original post

Sounds like a smokin deal, that 475 is ridiculous! Much cheaper to be found as seen here ^!

POST 7Original post

And there you have it....eric....grab'em. Rob....you should give Eric first dibbs since he started this thread. J

POST 9Original post

Eric, I have the 3.6 mufflers with the mod already done on the car that I bought from Chuck Jones....I just need to pull them off the car. I will be returning my Vesuvio car to stock and putting the Billy Boat Mufflers & headers on the new project. Does $200 plus shipping sound reasonable? I will also have some Schnell headers to get rid of (if anybody is interested) to help fund the upgrade from plastic to leather on the new toy.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Mark, Nice to hear from you. YES I will take you up on your offer. You are not too far from me so the shipping should not be too bad either. Do yours have the 2" or 2.25" by-pass? I cannot remember what Chuck did but I think it was 2.25?? Robert, Thank you very much for the offer of yours. You basically delivered just what I asked for but since Marks are done - WALLA! I saw the pix of the D-Man doing Chucks and I know they are done right - who knows what my local muffler shop would turn out?? Thanks again everyone. I will PM you Mark, eric

POST 11Original post

Geez Mark....you're sure running a "non-profit" organization.....$200 for a set already modded by Darin? That's a smoking deal.....you can't get the cans and have them modded for less than $375 or 400. But....I guess I'd better butt out....it's not my car anymore...... Chuck

POST 12Original post

Chuck, it will always be a car that belonged to you first. You are the one that did all the great mods (like the PSS9s) and kept it in mint condition. I always welcome your opinion...you never need to worry about needing to "butt out". I got a fantastic deal from you on the car....I'm happy to pass on a good price on parts that I don't need to a fellow Rennlister. I'm just hoping the next time I'm in LA to visit my inlaws, I might be able to talk Eric into a ride in one of his race cars.

POST 13Original post

Just kidding Mark...I'm so glad you're giving my blue baby some CPR rather than seeing her parted out in a salvage yard.> Yes Eric...those cans are 2.25 stainless done by Darin...AKA FisterD. The also had the holes cut out to almost a full 2.25 so that they matched the diameter of the pipe and didn't leave any lip in there to inhibit flow. They were one of the best mods I had done to the car other than the ones for the PSS9's. All psychological mind you, there'll be no performance gains.....but the tone of the mufflers was absolutely great. You did get a smokin' deal!!

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 4635504

I'll take them now that the thread starter took some other one's. Will that be OK? Please PM me and I'll get you the money! Russ

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are all awesome! Russ will get his cans, Mark will be getting at least some money for the college fund, Chuck can be proud that his beloved FisterD surgically mod'd and finely tuned works of art are going to a good and appreciative home.... and I am very greatful to Mark for cutting me a very special deal. I know I will love them. I don't have any race cars right now but if things go well in the next 6 months for me I know something racey will find its way back into the race shop. I will check back in when I get them installed. eric YES TIM I WILL POST PIX.................

POST 17Original post

Hey, that's my line!

POST 18Original post

I'm looking for some modded ones if anyone is looking to get rid of theirs. Just let me know. thanks .

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

KGS, very curious to hear how your removal of the stock cans goes. Let me know if there is any way to get that center bolt out without having to take the brackets off. My plan is to remove the rear bumper and then have at it over the course of time - no rush because the car does not get driven much. Please keep us informed with PIX and good luck with the mod. eric

I am not sure how familiar you are with the mufflers, so here are a couple of links that may help. Sorry, the first one is rather long (I get carried away sometime) but pay close attention on my idea on how to remove the muffler "Tips." That will save you a bunch of time and aggravation. https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...96&postcount=1 The second link is an overview and has a PET diagram or teh exhaust system. https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...3&postcount=11 I hope these help.

im having a indy shop do it ...im hoping they know ...although you never really know what people know ....im also hopeing its deeper and louder but not in the sense of the young civic crowd?

It sounds just like the Civic "fart cans!" Just kidding! It will be louder and deeper.

Hey Tim, I just did a resurrect on the thread that you linked me to because it is great! Your drawings and tips are fantastic. I also want to thank you for always jumping in to offer real comment and solution. I have never addressed your talant before but I would like to now. I appreciate your posts and I will miss you if you decide to leave this board because of that Ferrari picture on your bathroom mirror. I realize that we all must move on at some point but just remember - it is Italian. Even though my names sake is also, my car is not. Really though, Thank You for the very helpful posts. I will stop with the mushy stuff. OH, almost forgot why I posted here...... I may have a few more tools than the average guy (being a race shop) but this is what I will be using. - yea I do pretty good at building an American hot rod but I need all the help I can get with my finely engineered German ride. eric

POST 26Original post

Is this mod only for 3.6 or can you do it on a 3.4?

POST 27Original post

you can do it to the 3.4 but i think the consensous is the 3.6 cans work better...

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 4667535

I emailed that seller yesterday, those cans are from a 3.4 NOT a 3.6

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 4668389

Eric, thanks for the very kind words. They are greatly appreciated. I hope the muffler write up helps in some way. I didn't know you had a race shop, so I guess my tip using the "poor man's clamp spreaders" wasn't needed. The tool you have would have been very useful to me a few times!

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 4669432

those cans are def 3.6, it has the accordians on them.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 4669432

THey may be from a 3.4L car, but if that is a pic of the actual mufflers he is selling, they ARE 3.6L mufflers. The 3.4L mufflers (on the left on the pic) have a smooth pipe coming from the cats and the 3.6L mufflers have the accordion pipe (circled) coming from the cats.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tim, I am always ready to hear "poor mans" "back yard" and "work around" solutions to problems. I just happened to have those snap ring pliers sitting in a drawer so PRESTO they will serve a purpose. It is funny how many things a good pair of snap ring pliers can be used effectively on. I was not posting that as any kind of upmanship, I just thought in my Tim Allen kind of mind that I would like to show them off and maybe also drop a hint to another way of attacking the problem. Keep up the good work and buy another Porsche! BTW, it is OK to drive a used one. You don't have to go buy a new one again :-) eric

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 4669783

Eric - I did not mean to imply I thought you were doing the "upmahship" thing. Rather, I was a little (OK, a lot) envious of the snap ring pliers. Actually, my 996 is a used one. It was about 14 months old with 6,450 miles on it when I got it. I just rolled it to 44,507 tonight, so I have driven it 38,057 miles in 32 months. Not bad! If Phil sees this post and notices the miles I have driven, he is going to go into cardiac arrest!

POST 34Original post

done!....if you are even thinking of doing this its a must!....car sounds like i believe it should reminds me of the old 911 air cooled sound! ...very happy with the mod thanks guys!
